    Need Pain Management Doctor

Hello, I am new here - Does anyone know the web site for Pain Specialist ?
I live in east TX and would like to find one in eitherTX AR LA Dallas to Little Rock, or Sheveport , I have tried one in Tyler TX , With very unsatisfactory
results. I have 4 broken vertrabe in my back from a fall and am in constant pain. Have been on 15 mg of metadone 3X day with 5 mg between for BT and
10 mg Flexrill 3X day. Dr in tyler made Pain pump trial for 3 days, then removed it, and sent me home. Said he would study case some more and call me. That was 6 months ago, has not called yet. I am 74 year old and on medicare, I think they do not pay enough for most doctors to take much
interest. Do I sound disgusted ? I guess I am, this pain has been with me for over 2 years.

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

    Hi Grandmother,
I live in Southern Louisiana but I haven`t found a pain dr here. I was sent to one and went to her and liked her but in the 6 mos I was her patiet I was pushed off to her assistant and only saw her 2 times. I got tired of it and quit.I know the assistant can write same script as she can but I didn`t care for her.I`m just going to my GP and take Loritab for pain.It is no where near enough for my back and feet pain but I have been living with it most of my life. Well I just wanted to wish you luck on finding someone. If you have a GP maybe he can give you something to control the pain until you find someone. Good Luck..Take care

Thumbs up Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

    Hi Grandmother !

Welcome to this board and I'm sorry to hear about all the pain and trouble that you're going thru. Since you obviously have internet access you can use the Search function of whatever web browser you use and do a "search" using pain+management+TX as your search criteria. I just tried that and came up with plenty of PM dr/clinics all accross Texas. LOL!

    Be comfortable!

Hello, Just wanted to let everyone know that 90mg of methadone every 24 hrs
is keeping pain about 75% under control. However has some effect on short term
    memory. Grandmother

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

Hi I am from south Louisiana also but I travel to go to a Pain Management dr in south east Tx and its worth it. Since im new to this I dont know how I could give you a name but hint look in Houston.... I hope that you would take the others advice and look around because its worth the look there are to many drs out there that are afraid of helping pain patients. I can tell you though that its a big relief when you find a dr who actually knows what your talking about. You shouldnt have to live in pain but as you can tell we are all here wondering what its gonna take for someone to open their eyes to us and understand we are not pill heads we have historys sometimes long ones of stuff I know no dr would ever want to feel. So good luck and hopefully you find your answers....

    Tee

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

Hello, Grandmother, I saw your post and really feel so badly for you! I hope things get better for you soon. I had a great Neurologist in Jacksonville, Ar.(suburb of Little Rock--not far from N. Little Rock) named Charles E. Schulz. If you are willing to go that far give him a call--he sort of looks like a mad scientist but he has no prob at all with sufficient pain releif and is very knowledgeable about back problems. wish I could find a dr. like him here in the atlanta area...take care/romc50

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

Just to let everyone know, Pain is 80 o/o under control with 100 mg. of methadone
every 24 hours. Short term memory is getting much worse. afraid to go any where
by my self any more. I get lost in stores that I have been shopping in for years.
There has to be something out there some where that can control my pain with out all these side effects.

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

    Grandma,

Not long ago I saw Jerry Lewis the actor who had very severe back problems. So severe in fact that he had to take heavy amounts of pain killers and actually became addicted. Yes, he was a drug addict because of back pain.

There is now a device (implant) that he had put in and he is now 100% pain free using no meds whatsoever.
It is a small Medtronic device that was implanted near the spine with small elctrical wires that go to different areas on the spine. He carries a small control much like a TV remote with him. When he feels pain he presses the button and "beep" the pain is gone for hours 100%. He said he sleeps absolutely beautifully and can walk and pick up his grandkids with NO PROBLEM. It sends electrical impulses to the spine that block the pain messages to the brain and you are pain free
This device is unseen as it is implanted and they can PRETEST you before they do it to see how affective it will be. AND it is supposed to be covered by insurance!!

    Take care Grandma!

    Re: Need Pain Management Doctor

    Hi Pumper
What you are talking about is the SCS I am having a trial for that on Friday Unfort. it is mostly for nerve pain and not "structural" pain from the back. I will post on Friday after my trial starts to see how well it works. I have had 4 lumbar surgeries including a fusion with hardware this past year.
I have been told to expect an average of 50% pain relief, and a reduction in meds but at this point my meds do not do the greatest for me anyway
I have waited since January for insurance approval for the trial and have finally gotten the go ahead and now I just have to wait 4 more days.
