    Question Tizanidine

Hi I've been put on Tizandine has anyone got any information to share about it? I always get nervous when I start new medications.

    Re: Tizanidine

It is also known as Zanaflex (brand name). It is a muscle relaxant and decreases muscle spasms. I have never used this particular muscle relaxant, but remember that it can make you sleepy and can add to the effects of other CNS depressant medications. Definately take your first dose at night or at a time when you don't have anything you need to be doing so that you can see how it affects you. If you are concerned with interactions with other drugs, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking it. I know that for myself, I talk to my pharmacist because I see quite a few different specialists and my pharmacist is always well aware of all the meds I am currently taking
    Hope this helps!

    Re: Tizanidine

Great muscle relaxant. I used it for a while last year when my back would go into spasm from my cancer pain. Don't really remember any side effects to speak of and I'm pretty sensitive to all meds. Easy on the stomach, didn't make me too groggy but then I was taking a fairly small dose. I was also on Norco and Decadron at the time don't know how much of difference that made.

It came highly recommended to me by a lung cancer patient. Hope it helps you.

    Hey Wings

Tizanidine (Zanaflex), as the others have pointed out is a muscle relaxant. It comes in 2 and 4 mg tablets. However the usual dose is 4 mg to begin with and then 8 mg after a couple days and up from there as your Dr directs.

I was prescribed Zanaflex a couple years ago. It made me pretty drowsy and I kinda felt out of it. I've taken other Muscle Relaxers in the past, and didn't feel as tired as I did on Zanaflex.

It seems to be a good drug that actually reduces or stops spasms. However, for me the side effects were too much with the drowsiness. They usually only recommend that you take it at bedtime.

It may work just fine for you with little side effects. We all respond differently to meds. Zanaflex just didn't work for me. Hope it works out for you.

    Take Care

    Re: Tizanidine

Hi Wings! I've been taking Tizanidine 8mg every 8 hours for muscle spasm and muscle pain for almost 15 months now. I find it to be very effective in my case...I remember that, like all meds, it took me a few weeks to get used to it but once I had been on it for awhile I had no problem with being dizzy or tired, etc. I've been on other muscle relaxants before namely Baclofen and Flexeril and I think the Tizanidine works better, at least for me.
