Broken tailbone/sacrum ... any pain management advice?

I'm new to the boards and joined to post a question about something else, but noticed thsi forum.

I broke my sacrum bone rollerblading last Sat., and the pain has been manageable with a 3 ibuprofen/2 tylenol combo every 6 hours or so. The doctor didn't put any restrictions on me, and I even jogged for a bit yesterday, though it seems to be a bit more tender today. I'm worried that I'm making it worse, because I have a sit-down job for 8 hours everyday, not to mention the traffic to drive here and back. I'm mostly trying to stay off it at home though.

Is there a chance I'm making it worse by doing all this sitting? I'm afraid it won't heal correctly and I'll be dealing with the pain and discomfort for the rest of my life.

Have any of you ever broken a tailbone/sacrum? How long did it take to heal? I'm going on a road trip across the country on August 10th - do you think it will be ok by then to be able to do sports activities comfortably?

    Hii Yelena,

I'm sorry I don't have any first hand advice for you, but I have had a ton of athletic type injuries (broken bones, tendons, ligaments etc. etc.) and did not have alot of luck with the medical Dr.'s that I saw other than basic information.

I was very afraid of chiropractors years ago but I got such good recc. from other athletes about this one chiro that was excellent - or so they all said. Well he had me up and ready for camp in 10 days and explained what 'would' have happened if I would have healed the way I was going. Since then he has been by far, the best person to talk to regarding this type of problem.

There is a big difference, IMO, between an average chiro and a great one, so if you are going to go, get all the references that you can!!

Thanks Zach! The doctor I went to works at a sports injury clinic, so I did trust his opinion a bit more than just any orthopedic. It's been less than a week, but I will consider seeing a chiro down the road if needed.
