    * Do Not take vitamins when on narcotic medication...WHY

    * Do Not take vitamins and beta blockers at the same time as you take any narcotic medication.
Why is this? What does it do??

I take prescription vitamins with my pain meds, and obviously have never had a problem, or raised any red flags with my pharamcist. What specific meds are you taking? Where did you read this warning?

I just went to the do's and don'ts and read that also. Really they should put the reason for this if they are going to make a statement like that. I take pain meds, inderal and prescribed vitamins all the time. I wonder what the reason is? Maybe it just means literaly at the same moment? I don't know, if anyone does please share.

Re: * Do Not take vitamins when on narcotic medication...WHY

I have several specialists that treat me and they have never told me not to take my beta blockers with my pain meds. My PM doc, cardioligist, primary care doc, metabolic doc, and kidney research docs have all said it's fine. I take 2 different beta blockers (labetalol and coreg) along with 2 high blood pressure drugs (lotensin and catapres). Without my beta blockers, my heart would probably explode. Even with both of the blockers, my resting heart rate is 130 and can easily jack up to 195 (that's not fun...have to go to ER and be shocked....sucks!!)

Anyway, just curious because I've never been told not to mix them. Plus, my pharmacist has never said anything about interactions, either. Have a great day!!

My surgeon is supposed to call today and I will ask him about this. I have never heard of such a thing and I would think it if it was a problem someone would have told us by now.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents here...

After a visit to my OB a few weeks ago we were discussing my back problems and she asked if I had any constipation problems with all the pain meds and I told her rarely and when I do I take this herbal type colon cleanse and she told me to be very careful with that becasue many of the herbs can bind with the narcotics and render them less efficient. I am also on a prenatal multivitamin which she prescribes and she did not however say anything about my multivitamin causing problems.

Herbal suppliments, yes, some of them are as strong as prescription meds and should always be treated as if you were adding a new script to your regimine, your pharmacist can help you with that.
But vitamins, I have never heard of not taking them with narcotics, I'm with everyone else here, who knew? If someone finds out why, please post!
