You will not go through withdrawal as bad if you start taking the hydrocodone but you will go through some. Just be aware that you need to titrate down the hydrocodone before you run out or you will definitely go through some major withdrawal. Of course alot does depend on how much oxycodone you were taking and how long you were taking it. I hope this helps.

As Brian wrote, it depends on how much oxycodone you were/are taking. Hydrocodone is weaker than oxycodone milligram for milligram. So, if you are on alot of oxycodone then you will experience some withdrawal.

Can you wean yourself off of the oxycodone slowly? That's the best solution, and augment the oxycodone with the hydrocodone and you build up to whatever that dose should be.

FYI - Hydrocodone is prescribed along with acetaminophen (APAP), usually with 5mg of hydrocodone and 500mg of APAP. Some formulas have as much as 7.5 to 10mg of hydrocodone, and the APAP can range from 325mg to 750mg. The is no hydrocodone tablet that has more than 10mg of the drug.

I imagine your prescription is for 5/500, or 5mg hydrocodone and 500mg APAP.

i don't khow about Oxycondone but i've been on Panedeine Forte (2Xs 30 m.g per tab) and Tramal {2xs 5mg} whenever pain occurs for my previous Laminectomy and I'm also on 12 mg. Buprenorphine for daily maintenence. Recently I had kidney stones and the medication did'nt help at all. At the emegency center i was presribed Hydrocondone (5 mg. per tab- 4X2tabs, 4 times daily) and i found that even though the pain persisted, I was able to pass my stones out within the week - withstanding the pain. I would therefore think that Hydrocondone is much more effective in my circumstance than Oxycontin - which I gather, is about as strong as Buprenorphine. Is this right or is it just in my head?
