Need MORE information.

Please be more specific with your question (i.e. what type of pain, is this prescribed for you, etc).

Take care,
typically, methadone has a half-life of about 22 hours. meaning that you can actually skip a dose, and the pain not re-occur for a few more hours - so you have a little time in case you forget to dose up. i was told that methadone can be detected in your blood for up to 12 to 14 days, as in a drug test situation.

in addition, according to my neurosurgeon, it takes 3 - 4 weeks to detox from methadone - some people even a little more time. and the detox is absolutely painful as some people go as long as 15 -20 days without being able to sleep properly, along with the typical sweats, body aches, irritability (sleep deprevation), and loss of appetite.

i am currently on 50mg of methadone daily for chronic nerve pain, and am wanting to switch medications because of the side effects of the methadone. so to detox, i i do switch meds, i will go to the detox center in atlanta, ga - where you are put in a semi-sleep state for seven days (as if you were having surgery), and you are detoxed while sort of unconcious, as not to experience the white-knuckle pain of detox.

i hope this helps - good luck.
What medication are you planning to switch to?

I switched from methadone to morphine continuous release (MS Contin) and no detox was required. My CP specialist simply figured out what the proper starting dose of MS Contin was, and what to work up to, and all was well. I didn't suffer even one minute of withdrawal.
