Re: difference between oxycodone and oxycontin
Hello and welcome to the boards.
"Oxycodone" is the active ingredient of "Oxycontin." Oxycontin is a timed release med where the Oxycodone is released over a 12 hour period in roughly equal increments. There is no other med in the pill besides Oxycodone.
"Oxycodone" is the active ingredient in many pain meds. For example it is found in Percocet, but the pill also contains Tylenol. Percocet, however, is instant release (IR), meaning it is distributed all at once. It comes in a couple different strengths. There are also varying strengths of Oxy IR meds....Oxycodone by itself and IR mechanism.
Any med containing Oxycodone is considered a Schedule II (sometimes referred to as CII) and controlled by the Fed Gov't. No refills are permitted, the script must be on paper. Telephone script is only permitted in the case of an emergency and must be followed by a written script.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ex
