Hi everyone,
This will be pretty short (sorry!) because I'm feeling really sick and I'm trying to get other stuff done, too.
I started PM on Christmas Eve (and what a wonderful present, indeed!), and my doc started me on Avinza, which was GREAT! I felt like it controlled my pain well for as long as it said it was supposed to (I only thought about BT pain maybe twice that whole month I was taking Avinza) with really no side-effects except some light-headedness for the first few days.
Last month, he had to switch me to Kadian (at the same dosing and strength as the Avinza) because of insurance reasons. Oh my gosh, Kadian...*sigh* So far, I've been sick as a dog - nausea, vomiting, haven't been able to keep food down, severely dizzy, in bed 24/7, depressed/dejected, non-functional, and even changes in my (already very impaired) vision. And it's not controlling my pain. I've had lots of breakthrough (but no BT meds).
The nurse said the Kadian was "exactly the same" as the Avinza, so I don't understand why I'm feeling so badly. I haven't changed anything else, btw, and I've tried taking it both with and without food...it makes no difference.
What is my major malfunction? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
My doc would be happy to prescribe the Avinza, but my insurance won't pay for it (Kadian is their "preferred medication"), and I can't afford it at full price. I'm also inquiring about any discounts or assistance plans the pharmaceutical co. who makes Avinza (which, oddly enough, is located very close to where I live) and have yet to hear back.
Thanks for any advice or encouragement. I just feel really frustrated about this. Darn insurance.
