Chronic back pain for 5 years now

I have really bad chronic lower back pain. Sometimes it has a terrible burning pain. its constantly crackin when i move around and strech it. It seems to be worse at nighttime the doctor gave me ibprufen to help but doesnt seem to be doing anything im only 18 and this back pain is messing up things. I cant play hockey anymore becasue it burns while playing. My theory is the back pain came from being hunched over while playing hockey for so many years of my childhood.

The doctors dont seem to take it serious they just keep giving me Ibprufen and Naproxen Any ideas what to do ?? :dizzy:

You can get an MRI if you have good insurance or can pay. That will help support your claim . Do you have any X rays or anything now ? Doctors will be hesitant to give narcotics to young people. My son nearly had his finger cut off by a machete and had a pellet lodged in his thigh that went in his butt. he was told to take Tylenol for pain. yet when he had 5 small teeth removed years ago for his braces oral surgeon gave him Vicodin at age 13

You need to ask the doctor to have an MRI on your lower back. Maybe that will show them what the real damage is and go from there. Good luck!

I am so sorry you have had to go for so long without adequate pain relief. I have suffered from chronic lower back pain for roughly 8 years. I agree that you really need to have the MRI to show a specialist or surgeon. I am not sure of your situation concerning insurance but the MRI would be the best method to diagnose your problem. A good surgeon can look at a MRI and pretty much strait away know what is going on. Good luck. Allan.

hey there,

can give more info-were you injured-did you have mri-xrays-ct scan? how old are you?

you dont say any clear given diagnosis other than pain. most doctors wont treat pain agressivley or with strong medines with out diagnstic studies to back it up.

if you can give better info you will get some good input.

You may not need an MRI but if someone comes on here asking about pain over an extended period usually there is some reason for it. A back injury can happen without you noticing strait away and you get pain latter on. I first hurt my back at work and over the years it just steadily got worse until I couldn't work full time and then after a while I could not work at all but because I left it so long I couldn't claim against the original injury. But if I was you I would see a chiropractor or a specialist who will do some studies being that of xray or ct scan first before an MRI. They usually just start with an xray an some physio. That is probably what your doctor will do. But don't just ignore it.
I am lining up for a double fusion operation at the end of the year because I ignored my problems.

hey allen-

i too have similar injuries as yours as result of being crushed in bus accident-but i wouldnt do tha surgery-i have talked to too many others who have gone thru it and it failed and now suffer evan more. so, i have accepted the cp as a new normal and just try to be grateful for the minimal relief i get from the pain meds.

best wished to u downunder
