Unhappy How can I get a doctor to prescribe pain meds?

In 06 I fell broke my neck, leg, and shoulder. Had surgery on all. chronic pain since. I have been put on pain meds and taken off several times now. Living in International Falls, MN having only one clinic "Duluth clinic rainy river". These doctors keep playing games taking me off my meds for no reason but them saying I don't need them. I am on SSI disabled. My pain is very bad and now after being on oxycotin 15mg 2X a day they cut my meds because I could not make the pain management UA this week. Please give me advise how to stop these doctors from playing games with my well being. Any advise on where or how to find a good doctor.

I too have had this problem. It helps to have family members come to your appointments with you. Doctors are afraid of prescribing pain meds as they fear what may happen to their licenses. Bringing a family member with to help prove you are really in pain seems to be what they need. Have family member(s) tell the doctor how the pin is affecting your quaility of life and daily living. I'm going to bring someone to my appointment with my pain management dr to see if this helps at the end of the month. It's sad but doctors are more concerned with their licenses then using all tools available to them to provide their patients with pain relief. It's not much but I hope this helps.

Also, go to a regular pain doctor, not just a clinic. I realize that this might be impossible due to where you live, but that's your best bet. Is there any place else within a reasonable distance? As BetterSomeDay said normal docs don't want to prescribe pain meds in fear of losing their licenses.

I see two doctors one is a muscular skeletal specialist and the other my general practitioner. Before my doctor (GP) will prescribe me anything the specialist has to prescribe it first. I did see a anaesthesiologist/pain Specialist before he died but they are usually the most respected and will not give narcotic meds unless they are sure you need them and that you are a Genuine chronic pain sufferer. If you have a MRI report from a surgeon that helps. Good luck in finding a good specialist. Allan

Is it worth your while to drive to Grand Rapids or Duluth or Hibbing? I would think that Grand Rapids is large enough to have someone that could treat you. Or the U of Minn Duluth is there, can they help?
