Emailed my dr & it was hard for me to do.

After talking to others in here and talking to my husband, I sent an email to my dr, telling her the medication as I am taking it is not working and asking if I can be referred to pain management. I have Kaiser and I dont think they have it though. If she asks me to come in and discuss it, it will be so hard to do. My husband believes as long as I don't use the meds to get high, I will not become addicted. I am not so sure if that is true or not. He understands that I am embarrassed that I am coming across as someone who is just looking for narcotics, but he is taking over a lot of my responsibilities and is tired of seeing me spend the entire weekend not doing anything. I believe now I am clinically depressed about this situation. I cry, feel sorry for myself and think how unfair this happened when I am so young and have children depending on me. I know I am not the person my husband married and I feel like he sure got the short end of the stick by marrying me. I will let you all know when she responds.

My dear, please don't belittle yourself because of your need for midication. This isn't something that you sought, none of us did. But, if using medication will help you get your life back on track, isn't it worth it?

And please don't let your hubby denigate your feelings and your pain. If he could just walk in your shoes for a weekend, he wouldn't be so quick to be criticising your use of meds. Most people who have not had severe pain have no idea how difficult it is to function on a day to day basis with debilitating pain ruling your every waking moments.

You probably are depressed. Most pain patients do suffer from some degree of depression. There are meds that are a combination of pain control and anti-depressants that can help you with it. But mearly getting your pain levels under control will help you with the depression.

Don't feel ashamed to ask for meds from your doctor. You certainly aren't a drug seeker. Those are folks who have no syptoms yet ask for increasingly higher and higher amounts of meds. You are far from there.....

hang in there and keep us posted....

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I needed it. The dr did not respond and she usually does within 24 hours. I know her office has read it. Now, I am thinking she is just tired of me. This situation is just tiresome.

Hi again. Please don't give up. Maybe you should just give the doctor a call. Keep in mind, that if she refused to take your calls and/or answer your emails that is called patient abandonment and is against the AMA rules. She MUST respond and if she truly does not want to be your doctor, she needs to tell you so in writing. If she does respond to you but seems to be disinterested just ask if she would prefer you to find another doctor!

Otherwise, I agree with all that has been said in the other posts. You aren't alone and it's normal to be depressed. I remember your first post from a couple of days ago and it could be that your doc just isn't sure what she needs to do for you.

I'm glad you posted again; please continue to do so. And again, honestly is the best policy even tho it is going to be very hard. I pray your doctor is understanding and helps you.

    Carol

Re: Emailed my dr & it was hard for me to do.

Hang in there. She may just be searching for a good doctor to make the referral to. I think Kaiser needs a referral from the PCP. Or she may be trying to get approval from Kaiser to send you to the specialist. I don't think you are doing anything wrong by asking for this. Also, don't be afraid to try a prescription for an anti-depressant along with your pain medication. Being in pain AND depressed is the absolute pits. I can't imagine that Kaiser does not have a pain management program. It is really becoming a major specialty and they are such a big system. good luck!

    Kelsey,
I'm happy that you have found a doctor who is helping you with your pain management.
You note that you can pay cash to some pm. I hope that you're not suggesting that people look for doctors who are not certified or who are not practicing in a professional manner, ie, pill pushers. We're all looking for pain relief, but we need to keep in mind our morals, values and above all the law.

It is possible to get physically addicted to pain meds even if you take them as prescribed. Your condition as well as your pain med could cause you to have some depression. Keep a journal if u have time. It may be a big help to you. Not only for yourself bjt to possibly show your physician if you need help and can't seem to get it.

Actually antidepressants have been found helpful in pain reduction even in people who are not depressed. I don't think they know why it works that way yet. Probably something about how the brain processes pain signals.

Not everyone has insurance. If u dont have insurance u have to pay for ur visit some how. There r drs that let u pay for your office visit. My dr has been in buisness for 40 years, and yes he is certified in many many area and pm is one area. So what in the heck r u talking about pill pushers. He is a pain mangement dr . He offers some of his patients that dont have insurance to b able to pay the same amount that he charges other patients insurance company,( that do have insurance). THANK GOD THERE IS DR THAT WILL LET U PAY FOR FOR VISIT .(CAUSE WE DONT HAVE INSURANCE WE SHOUD STILL B TREATED. IF WE R PAY THE BILL OURSELFS.My Family dr does this to( they dont give any pain meds).IF U HAVE NO INSURANCE HOW ELSE ARE U GOING TO B ABLE TO GO TO THE DR.
So r u saying that if u have insurance that pays for your visit, your dr is better or more qualified THEN MINE that lets me pay for my visit. AND THAT HE IS A PILL PUSHER,IF THATS WHAT PM DOES,THEN U TOO R GOING TO A PILL PUSHER .Also what the heck ARE U TALKING ABOUT morals, vaules, and law. SINCE WHEN IS NOT HAVING INSURANCE A CRIME.. PEOPLE READING THIS U CAN GET A DR TO THAT WILL ALLOW U TO PAY FOR VISIT YOURSELF HAPPENS EVRYDAY AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.( WHAT R THEY SUPOST TO DO WITH PEOPLE THAT DONT HAVE INSURANCE , TAKE THEM OUT BACK TO THE BARN AND JUST SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD LIKE AQ HORSE)
SORRY I WENT ON MY SOAP BOX BUT WHAT WAS POSTED MAD ME ANRGY.ALL THAT CRAP IN HER POST REALY REALLY MAKES UPSETS ME. I REALLY HOPE U DONT LOOSE YOUR INSUANCE. SORRY ABOUT (SP)
