Camped Out At Pain Doc's ?

My first visit last week to the pain doctor, consist of a 7 hour wait. First I ask when making the appointment if I needed medical records, reply was no nothing. When I arrive, you guessed it,(medical records) I called my physician and they sent them via fax right away, but the great desk helper kept saying they didn't get it. Well, after 3:00 in the evening they finally said they had my records, but I would be the last patient for the day, which was at 7:00 that night. My daughter goes there too and always has a 3 to 4 hour wait. Could someone enlighten me on pain docs? Is this the senario for the wait in all pain offices? This just seems so unreal for a back patient to have to sit that long. If you wasn't hurting when you went in, you sure would be coming out.
Thanks Slimmy

Hey Slimmy - No, unless there was an emergency in his office, extremely unlikely. I wait an average of 5/10 min. for any of my appts at mine. This includes all staff: PT, nurses, doc, or psych doc.

Your doc making you wait that long does not forbode good for you. Usually a sign of disorganization, or even worse, poor attitude towards the patients. as in "they can wait on me-I'm a busy man". Bull$hit.
We're all busy. Or they are seriously overbooked, trying to rake in as much as possible. Also bad for you as he won't spend enough time with you to get a good picture of what you have tried, etc.

I would say if you don't recieve most excellant care from him when you do manage to get in - he's not worth it and better make arrangements for another referral. Sorry, just my opinion it is best not to spend much time going nowhere helpfull.

JoEllen & Fredo, Thanks for your post,Fredo I will be taking your advise. My daughter had an appointment today with that inconsiderate boob,at 12:30 she called to tell me she was playing the sit & wait game, then at 6:15pm called again and said she was still playing the game. She & I both have already found another to go to, as of today. We will no longer play his musical chairs game. Thanks So much for confirming this. Slimmy

I love my doctor, but the office might as well be run by chimps. So it is impossible to get anything done. They often run an hour late. Plus you sit around in the treatment room and then wait for your prescriptions at the end. Something always goes wrong. It often takes 3 hours.

But 7 is really insane. Not telling you that you needed your medical records. Might get better after the initial visit. That is often a huge process.

But I wouldn't put up with this forever. I think you might ask politely if there a way to speed up the process, so you don't wait in pain so long. You could call ahead and see how late they are running.

So sorry they put you through that. What we all go through.

ARGH. I just spent 3 hours in the doctor's office and left without the perscriptions. They agreed to refill them and did some other stuff and then lost my file.

So I was thinking of you and your 7 hour ordeal. I just couldn't wait. Too much pain. So I said mail them. I have a feeling I will live to regret that decision.

Next time I am bringing a pillow and blanket. But I really like my doctor.

ARGH! Just spend 3 hours and left without any perscriptions, which they agreed to refill. We had a nice talk and some acupuncture, but they lost my file or something. I just couldn't hang out any longer. I was in too much pain. So I said "mail them to me." I am sure it will be a disaster.

But I was thinking of you and your 7 hour ordeal. I guess next time I will wear PJs and bring a pillow.
