    So tired of this.

I am 32 years old a wife and mother to a very active 2 year old boy,2 doggies, and 4 cats.I have been in pain pretty much my whole life and I have gotten use to it for the most part. I use to be a catering manager and bartender up untill 2006 when I finally decided that I would listen to my doctor and stop working and file for permanant disability. I didnt win my case untill 2010. I will never forget the judges words to me "I am so sorry you had to wait this long,if anyone is disabled its you sweethart",he the told be in was finding in favor of my case. Most of the time you do not know until atleast 30days later when you get a letter in the mail but I am sure most of you reading this already knew that already. I am also pretty sure you know how hard is it to find a good doctor. I was fortunate enough to have found one and she had remained my primary and pain management doctor up until april 23rd of this year when I got the phone call saying that she had left and I would have to see another docror who was filling in. I was devastated to say the least.Finding a primary doctot isnt that big a deal but a another pain management doctor ,thats a nightmare ,again I am sure most of you already know this though. It had taking me along time to find the right combination of medication so that I can even attempt to take care of my family now the thought of becoming a pin cushion is almost as scary as the thought of running out of those medicines and getting very, very sick. Now I will admit unlike 9 years ago when my husband got layoffed,we lost our insurance and the doctor at the time handed 30days of patches and pills and said good luck.(not that I could fill them with out insurance anyway) The doctor who saw me in place of my old doctor said she would continue to see (and fill 1 of my medications(she doesnt have the lincense to write the other) me untill I could get into proper pain management .Now before I get into how that "battle" has been going I should explain that in addition to the typical problems that we all face when finding a new Pain management doctor, I have to other strikes against me. The first one is that I can not drive due to nerve damage in my hands, neck and back so my husband has to take the day off work everytime I go to the doctor which costs us alot of money. To add to that I am on a high dose (to those who do not ANYTHING about pain management)of a medicine that alot of doctors think only heroin addicts use, even some pain management doctors misunderstand it but it seems to be one of the few medicine that have help me. Okay that being said I started to do some research on the internet in the hopes that I could read about a doctor that other people like or know will help me. I have not found that doctor yet but I have relized that there are ALOT of other people who have through all the hell I have just to try to live a normal,pain-less (I dont even say pain -free)happy life and its is very reassuring.Alright so after looking for a few days . I found a few recommendations but it seems like the same doctors that people like people hate. I started to make some calls thursday . When I called I asked them upfront if have a problem with being on that certain medicine and that I would be willing to try something else. I figure why waste the time going their to here them say they want accept me. Well I heard we dont see patients on that from most all but 1!! Did I mention that I have NEVER abused or taking any drugs and I have all the doctor reports, mris, tests and everything else to prove I am not A "pill popper" but even after telling them that ,they just dont care. However, I did have 1 office call me back 1st thing friday am after I left a message. Not only did they not have a problem with that certain medicine they actually prescibe it there. She told me that the reason why is because they are termlong term pain management or a "pain specialist" not an interventist.I actaullt talk to her for a little while ,she said that alot of people including doctots are just plain ignorant about it and other "opioid medicine " and its a shame. You can imagine my relife that they were so nice and understanding.
. .The only problem is some of the reviews say that he just cares about making money, the appts. take forever ,and they do alot of injections but they also said they did get there meds. I did read one review from a patient of 12 years saying that they love them and as long as you are being honest, which is exactly how my old doctor was . There was always someone leaving her office upset for not getting medicine.Well,my appointment is thursday so I guess I will see. I think this is the first time I have felt comfortable sharing my story, its not like I like saying "Hey I have to take pain medicine-please judge me"in fact I do not tell barely anyone so It feels so good just to vent to people who know what a struggle everyday is.

Dear baby bean, My dr of 13 years left to do hospital rehab & i was in your position for two months & i found the reviews online
inaccurate, i understand how upsetting it is, i aged a year in those 2 months! It would be ultimate imho, if i were you i would want the MRI & other tests done before thursday & if i could go interview the new dr, not signing pain contract, nor receive any prescriptions & ask the new pm dr what his current & future treatment plan would consist of for me If i became his patient & have the option of deciding if he would be right for me. But, you need a refill on the main medicine you take for pain right? I saw 2 new drs but ran back to my old dr because he agreed that it wasnt in my best interest to have injections , the name of the new place i went to was "interventional pain specialists" & they did all types of procedures ESI's , RA ablations, pumps, scs, & rarely meds but if meds no more than the equivalent of 90mg of morphine per 24 hours maximum no matter what. I hope that you have found the right dr for you already & that thursdays appt goes great! I know how nerve racking it can be , i will pray that it all works out fine!

Thanks for the advice. I am lucky enough that the doctor who saw me in place of my old doctor said see will help me with all but 1 of my meds and referrals. She said she knew it was going to take awhile to find a doc. My other medicine she doesnt have a lincense for but 3yrs ago I was told my old doc. was leaving in 2 weeks. I paniced and listened to my neighbor and went to a clinic were I knew that i could always get my med. The doctors office was unorganized, and doctors were always leaving so I believed she was leaving. By the time I found out she had not left I had already got use to a much higher does of the medicine . I went back to her and our plan was to slowly increase the med. for break through pain and decrease the long term meds, once I got to lower dose she could take over to give that to me again and it could help my pain alot better. She left beforte she took over so,luckily I still have my medicine. I pray this doctor will do the same. I think that if i could increase short term medicine more I can decrease the other by alot more ,alot quicker. My old doctor was being a litttle slow about that. I have been reading alot of reviews and most of them are bad about this new doctor. They say that he wants patients to do alot of pt,injections, etc,I am okay with that as long as I get my meds and my son and husband get me back ,I will do anything once a month.I really appreciate the support.By any chance is that doctor you saw in baltimore.

    Re: So tired of this.

Unfortunately pain specialists are under the DEA's microscope, and many have really tightened up on prescribing narcotics. When new patients come in, the PM doc often tries to get the patient off the heavy drugs. It's nothing to do with you personally; it's just the atmosphere of today. There's a big controversy right now with some legislators wanting to ban all narcotic painkillers simply because one of their constituents died of an overdose, etc. I don't think it'll ever go that far, but clearly the days of easily obtaining adequate pain relief are over. The so-called war on drugs has changed the lay of the land entirely. You might want to call one of the teaching institutions and see what they recommend. Talk to pharmacists; they know doctors well, and while they can't recommend one doctor over another (that's unethical) they can give you a list of pm doctors. This is a tricky area, because many of the older doctors who do believe in good pain control are getting to the point of retirement, and the younger doctors are encouraged at school to be very conservative. Again though, I want to emphasize that it's not you - it's just the way things are right now. Many pain patients are going through the same ordeal, unfortunately, and it's not fair or right, but it is what it is. Good luck

    dear Baby=

I wish you well at new doc apt-you never know-this could be a very good turn of events for you, I do hope so! Please let us know how it goes.

BTW that doc who told you she "was not licensed" to prescribe that certain med, out and out LIED-she just wasn't comfy rx'ing it-but that is only my opinion.

Looking forward to a positive outcome for you girl! Good luck. Oh and that OD Dave mentioned, and this really burns me up-I could probably guarantee it wasn't the pain med that killed this od vic-but I believe it was all the other stuff they took with it-but that part always gets left out for some reason(???)

    DearBaby Bean,
I wish u well in a search of a dr who understands pain control.
I'm sure many will agree that the hardest part is being constantly judged by people who have never experienced the hell of chronic pain. I give you gentle hugs and wish only the best for you. This is a place you can come to at least be understood. Sometimes that is all we ask. God bless, Popsickletoes
