    Post HELP!!!! Pain clinic

Help!!! I get no sedation oral or IV of any sort for pain management clinic procedures, we're talking back shots etc... I screwed up I was in so much pain and one time I took my friends medication. Yes I had a narcotic contract but I didn't really understand it I screwed Up , and I confess I didn't really read it. it's bad enough that the technician wanted it right away anyway. I'm sure everybody knows that they want you in and out so they can go on to their next patient because they're so short staffed. Anyway one time I took my friends medications cause of the pain that I was in and I had notified the doctor that I saw that the Vicodin 10mg was not helping my pain. This past weekend I had an accident I fell and I had a brace myself so my head did not hit a brick wall bruises all over you name it black, blue, purple. It happened around 2 a.m. in the morning the moment it happen I started icing it I took my vicodin, it did not touch my pain. I thought I broke my hand, few hours later I went to the urgent care I was in so much pain! I told the emergency room doctor had a narcotic contract I was in so much pain my hand was swollen and he said I was not violating my contract since he was just giving me a few tablets. I could not think straight and it was on a weekend my pain management clinic was closed. I filled the percocet and now my pain management doctor that I finally was able to see today is cutting me off. They just want to do shots but the procedure is so painful I get no sedation that without the pain medications I can't even go through or get any relief what can I do. All those in pain management know what I'm talking about when it comes to those procedures. If I get a new pain specialist, will they hold this against
me? do you start a new clean slate? help me? advise me what can I do? will a doctor even take me on ? should I tell them that I used to be seen by a pain specialist? I have not been dismissed yet, but I can't go through those procedures and I need my medications. yes I screwed Up, but I was just in so much pain please advise me what can I do?

    Re: HELP!!!! Pain clinic

It shouldn't be a violation if there's a hospital situation and u let them know about a pain contract. That's what my pain doctor told me. I'd find a new doctor

The doctor could put in the medical records of what u did and not taking as prescribed but I'm sure ur fine. Ask him for ur medical records and u can see what he says what he wrote once u have all ur medical records. Then find another doctor u may need a referral. So if u do go to a urgent care walk in clinic and see the doctor and ask for a referral for the doctor u choose and they will write it.

I just did that last week. Had no issues

And tell him the whole situation and be honest and I bet he will help

    Good luck

    Re: HELP!!!! Pain clinic

Review your contract to see what it says. Never take someone else's word but your own doctor as to what is a violation or not. They really do vary. Some would say its ok, but to tell your pain doc at the next appointment. Others may say its ok only with prior notice. Others may say you can only get X days worth of meds and must call the pain doc within X days. We can only guess. I hope you have a copy of what you signed.

If your contract allowed for short term pain meds from an ER, fight this. Otherwise, try to find a new clinic. However, most places do ask for records and a referral, so it could follow you. Yes I agree you should ask for your records and see what they say. That is something actually everyone should do...often mistakes are made. I would advise being completely honest with any new doctors. Best wishes.

    Re: HELP!!!! Pain clinic

In this day and age in pain management, you can't even think of doing something against your pain contract. Some contracts make an exception to ER's, but some docs want you to call before you get the meds.

I was in another state and fell. I thought for sure I broke my foot and went to the ER. They offered me pain meds while there which I turned down even though I can get meds from other doctors as long I tell that doctor I am under pain management. When I was getting discharged, he wanted to write me a script and I said no I am under a pain management contract and I didn't need them. He wrote it out anyway and put it in my paperwork. I help onto it and gave the script to my PM doc. He looked at it, scoffed and threw it away.

None of us can afford to not be on top of the new pain management guidelines. There is no room for error anymore.

    Re: HELP!!!! Pain clinic

About 4 months ago I had pain that my meds just were not touching.

I called my PM clinic and talked to the nurse thinking maybe I could see the Doc or PA and see what their suggestions might be.

The nurse told me to go to the ER.

Asked if that wouldn't violate the pain contract and she said that it did not as long as you contact the office and let them know.

She said it is only a problem if you start going too often.

When I went in to ER, they did offer me a script but I just asked them to give me a pain shot to see if that would get me thru.

I called the nurse the next day so she could let the Doc know that I did go and the report was on it's way.

All you can do in a situation like that is try your best to cover all the bases the best you can.

When you go in to see a new PM, like another poster said, just be really honest and explain exactly what happened.

I really think they will understand.

Then be sure and ask what their policies are in regards to the ER in detail.

Such as, can you accept a narcotic script from them or not, do you need to call before going, what if it is on a weekend, do they have an answering service where you can leave a message, etc.

I would cover everything I could think of.

When I think of something I want to ask my Doc, I have a notebook and I write it down so I won't forget.

With all the Federal laws these Docs have to follow now, one can't be too careful.

Good Luck, I really think you will be able to find a new doc and be just fine.

    Take care.
