Lexapro Side Effects

Hi:) As many of you know I have been taking Lexapro for about 9 months now. Many on here want to know if they have a side effect caused my Lexapro and I would just like to post some of the side effects that are listed on my Prescription Information Paper. Please read your own paper or call your doctor if you have any questions as I am not a doctor:

***Warning, if this will make you panic, please don't read***
(I used to panic sometimes when I first started having attacks)

Possible Side Effects:
nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, loss of appetite, dizziness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, back pain, or dry mouth.

This now says to check with your doctor if you have these:
increased sweating, unusual fatigue, or change in sexual ability/interest.
(Well, I have all three of these and my doctor says it's normal)

And, check with your doctor as soon as possible if you have these:
(Again, this comes from MY presription information, so call your doctor if you are worried)
stomach pain, black or tarry stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, unusual bleeding or bruising, vision changes, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, uncontrolled movements (tremors), chest pain, unusual or severe mental/mood changes, muscle cramps, restlessness, seizures, painful or prolonged erection, change in amount of urine, thoughts of hurting yourself, or worsening of depression.

It also says:
An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely.

Re: Lexapro Side Effects

the side effects lists for most prescription meds are just as scary, but the side effects lists for asprin and some other OTC meds are also frightening

in general its best to not read side effects lists, as we are often very suggestable and imagine we have everything we read of

only read it if having problems later

Re: Lexapro Side Effects

Before I got put on Lexapro my regular doctor gave me Xanax. I was afraid to take it becuase of the side effects. Never took it until I saw my psyhiatrist who gave me Lexapro. I finally did not give in and did not read about the side effects. Until now. :p And thankfully haven't had any of the side effects (knock on wood)

Re: Lexapro Side Effects

Plantlover,

It is a good drug. I've been on it for 9 months. I was trying to let others know what side effects to expect because a few have asked the question already. I hope I don't discourage anyone from taking it. Most of these side effects are the same as ALL SSRI's. I just thought it would be easier for people to read this cause there were so many questions about it.

Yeah, I am on Lexapro (20mg) and it is great. Started on Paxil CR and did not enjoy the Sexual side-effects. I fell that Lexapro is about 95% as effective with fewer side effects.

I experience the following:
Loss of Appetite
Drowsiness
Trouble Sleeping
Dry Mouth

All in all, I am willing to deal with a few issues to help with my Anxiety problems.

Mamisano:)

I sure wish I had loss of appetite. It's the complete opposite for me. But, I guess it's better than panicking.

Re: Lexapro Side Effects

Greetings from Gustav,

At startup had from first day night sweats, jaw clenching, loss of libido and delay. Started at 10mg. Sweats and jaw clenching were minor and went away at 3 weeks and never came back even after dose was upped to 20 mg at 5 weeks.

Sexual dysfunctions have been constant all along and I will put up with these (actually like the loss of sex drive, don't feel like a perpetual 17 year old anymore like in the last 30 years) for total relief from lifelong chronic major depression and lots of relief from OCD.

I love LEXAPRO and I feel like a poster child for it. I have been on it a little over 7 weeks and it has been therapeutic since late in day 6 for me. This is my first anti-depressant. Peace.
