Paxil and smoking.

Hey guys, new to the forum but not to the paxil. I recently started smoking (cigarettes, not weed) more than normal. I went from around 10 cigs a day to about a pack and a half a day. I've had alot more trouble focusing, sleeping and being inspired to do anything since smoking more. Never had this problem before paxil. Anyone notice this happening with them? I'm also drinking alot more caffiene nowadays

So, my question, does caffeine or cigarettes affect paxil in any way shape or form, and if so...how? Thanks.

Hi there
Smoking and drinking coffee are the worst thing you can do with this disorder!!
You take the Paxil to calm your nerves...then you smoke and drink coffee which undo the effects of the Paxil.Smoking and Coffee both cause anxiety/panic.I had to quit coffee all together.I do still smoke...but I plan on quiting...I feel my anxiety more after having a smoke.If you truely want to get better...you must quit.The coffee is a real No No

I completely cut out the caffiene, sugar, and alcohol, and the doc wanted me to quit smoking too, but I would have lost my mind! I have noticed on Lexapro that I am smoking more too!

from what ive read, smoking cigarettes decreases blood levels of antidepressants and so does alcohol. I dont think caffeine does though.

Ah..but coffee raises your heart rate..and that can lead to panic attacks.
also if you look up the side effects of coffee...they are just like anxiety/panic symtoms.It can be easy to quit though..by slowly adding more decaf..less cafinated coffee.Soon you will be drinking straight decaf...and your body won't know the difference.People with Anxiety and Panic should not smoke,eat lost of sugar or drink coffee.
