Potty training regression-HELP!

My son is 3 1/2 years old. He has been potty trained for months now and was doing wonderfully. He decided on his own, after a bit of instruction from me and my husband, that he was ready. Once he started, we had few accidents. He has a 2 year old brother and a 2 month old sister. When my daughter was born 2 months ago, my son regressed a bit by peeing in his pants. He LOVES his sister so much and wants to help with her all the time. I figured this setback was just his way of making sure we still pay him some attention. We have been staying on top of him more and making sure he goes to the bathroom several times a day to avoid any more accidents, and it's been working!

Now to the problem. He has decided recently that he should now go to the bathroom outdoors. A few times, I have caught him with his pants down in the yard trying to pee. I would really prefer he not do this b/c our yard is VERY visible to all of our neighbors (who are all VERY understanding). BUT...yesterday I caught him outback with the dog with his pants down trying to take a dump in the yard. Looking back it was kinda funny. It looked like the dog was giving instruction on the proper way to take a dump in the grass. I try not to yell at him, but it's hard. Has anyone been through this?? I know it's a phase, but how did you approach it? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Re: Potty training regression-HELP!

He has just become fascinated with his body and wants to enjoy varying its functions. Some little kids like to experiment and try out these things in different ways. Just tell him (repeat as necessary) that toilet functions are private and we do not want to see this outside. He will get past this stage, it is just part of establishing 'control' over himself.

My boys did the same thing. They eventually stopped, well almost stopped, lol. If they are at home with their Dad they might do this, but we live way out in the country. My dd doesn't do this. Maybe it is a boy thing! Hey, look at this way, at least its not in his pants, or on your floor, lol!

Re: Potty training regression-HELP!

I know it's a phase and will eventually end, but I feel bad for my neighbor who's office window is right above our yard. She's gets a front row seat! Good thing we are good friends!! Ha Ha
