Lifespan of a polio virus

Anyone know how long a strand of polio virus can last in the summer time and the winter time? Lets assume that the virus is in the water during all these times.

Re: Lifespan of a polio virus

interesting question. i think that, since it's a virus, it needs a host pretty quickly or it will die.

if it had lasted for a long time in water, then everyone, at least in new orleans where i got it, would have had it...and they didn't.

just a thought,

Re: Lifespan of a polio virus

A virus is a living creature, not the same as a tree or a dog, but they are alive. Most viruses can't survive without a host for more than about two days. And even fewer can survive in "hostile" enviroments, such as extreme cold, below freezing, extreme heat, or through chemicals.
