Leg stiffness due to polio

I have a wife. She suffered from polio when she was 2yrs old.She is now 31yrs old.Now she has stiffness on her right leg. She has a limp while walking. Can it be cured through operation?

Re: Leg stiffness due to polio

sorry, to say although I am not a doc.I have never heard of a correction. So many people suffer from this illness, even sometimes getting weaker and losing what muscle they do have. I have a severly weakened right leg, due to having polio at 2 mths old. I have always walked with a limp and my right foot is alot smaller then my left foot. At 38 years old, i dev. postpolio syndrome, it's the "after effect" of having polio as an infant. Why this happens noone knows and most doctors don't know either. It causes muscle weakness, nerve pain, and so many symptoms that sometimes are not explainable. I wish I could be of more help. God Bless
