    Hysterectomy doesn't cure PCOS

I am a 53 year old female. I suffered with PCOS all my life. I had a hysterectomy in 2012. I still try to lose weight and it is a losing battle. I made an appointment with a Endocrinologist who is a specialist in PCOS. I have a doctor's tell me it is in my head. When I was in my 30's I had severe PCOS. My right ovarie always has cyst before my cycle and would pop. Yes I heard and felt it. In my 50's I had fibroids that would make you I'll. I had an ablation and then a total hysterectomy. The pain finally stopped but I am insulin resistant. My daughter is in her 30's and she has the same problems. She took it upon herself to educate herself and found a doctor who diagnosed her with PCOS. The doctor told her this carry's on from your mother. She told me and now I am going to a PCOS specialist not just a Endocrinologist but one that specializing in PCOS. My daughter will be taking Metaforin for her PCOS. I am really excited to finally have validation of years of suffering. I will keep you updated as soon as I talk to the specialist. Thanks for reading!!!

    Hello lesliechaney51,

Many times there is a misunderstanding of what Poly-Cystic-Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is and isn't.

My right ovarie always has cyst before my cycle and would pop
There are different types of cysts. Some are concerning and need to be removed, others can be normal with ovulation. These two examples are not PCOS.

In PCOS the ovaries have multiple small cysts or "bumps" in them, they do not pop nor can you feel them. The symptoms of PCOS --- missed or irregular periods, excessive hair growth(Hirsutism) on face, chest, stomach, back, toes, pelvic pain, weight grain, and infertility.

I have had PCOS since I was 15 years old (I'm 54). My mother didn't have PCOS and neither does my daughter. I hope your daughter does well with Metformin, My stomach and bowels could not tolerate it.
