I have PCOS and wanted to share my story and give you hope

well, I was diagnosed 7 years ago with it. I am now 31 as of a week ago.

When my hubby and i 7 years ago TTC is when i found out i had it. I had it so bad that on a week back from our honeymoon i was in surgery to remove a cyst. (common PCOS symptoms). It came back so bad i needed another surgery. They removed it and found out it was borderline cancer. I had sooo many infections with those surgeries. I was in so much pain. I worried all the time and i was always wondering "why me"!?!?! I had wanted children from the time i was 3. I knew i loved little babies and wanted to have them. I also would like to add that from the time i was 13 and started my period, i would skip 4 months, or 7 month, or 2 etc... with no period. I knew from day one something wasn't right with my reproductive organs.

Shortly after my surgeries, i tried clomid with no luck. Those are hard pills to take while u have PCOS since it can cause cysts. I had to be monitered closely.

Then a year after clomid was no success i was refered to a fertility clinic. We tried metformin which had soo many negative side effects that i did NOT want to take it. We did some treatments with "timed intercourse" and that didn't work. In January 2006 I decided to join Weight watchers and lost 33 lbs by july 2006.

Then in july 2006 i had my first artificial insemination. 2 weeks after that insemination i got a period. My specialist Dr. told me to wait one cycle and come back for a second try. I asked him if i could try that one month and conceive naturally. He said "go for it you have nothing to lose." Well, i'm sure you know the end of this story...i got pregnant that month in between inseminations. Everyone in my life was in shock. I honnestly took over 50 tests over the course of my first trimester because i was worried i wasn't pregnant anymore...Needless to say it was the best present i could ever ask for.

my dr said that losing weight and watching what i ate and excersising daily was the best "medicin" for PCOS sufferers.

My daughter is now 14 months old and she is the love of my life. For all you girls going through this, don't give up. With everything i've been through my baby girl is proof that miracles do happen...

As for my PCOS symptoms this is what i have

1-Loss of hair on my head
2- more hair in places that shouldn't be (although i'm lucky it's not TOO bad-waxing helps )
    3-hard to lose weight
4-no periods or fewer periods a year
    5-very very very heavy periods
    6-cysts

I don't have pcos but I have read that mangosteen juice can really help. You must drink it everyday until the symptoms abate. I'm sure that noni does the same thing.cb

Re: I have PCOS and wanted to share my story and give you hope

Hello! I just wanted to tell you about my pcos to see if you could be any help to the situation I am in. Last Sept. I was diagnosed with pcos and my doctor put me on metformin. For the first 3 months of taking it I still no period. He then put me on a progesteron pill and that did work. A few months after taking that my husband and I decided we wanted to start ttc so he put me on clomid for cycle days 5-9, I did ovulate but no luck on getting pregnant. The only thing was, was that my period was coming one week after ovulation instead of 2 weeks. My doctor wasn't too thrilled with that and said he would need to consult with some other doctors to see what we should do. So this month he is wanting me to take the clomid and then come in for an internal ultrasound to see what my eggs looked like if there were any and to also take blood work to see what me hormones were doing. This coming Friday 8/1/08, is when I am going in for the tests. He is thinking that what we should do is take the clomid and then follow up with progesterone to hold my period off until the 28th day of my cycle. I guess my question for you is, did you experience anything like this? It seems like it is such a complicated disease to have because so many girls have different symptoms. And for me, I am a 5-1 woman and weigh 110, so for me it's not about losing weight to help with my symptoms, its just getting my hormones in check.

    Hey there

I took clomid only for a short time because of it's side effects. They weren't making me feel very good.
It's a good thing your getting your eggs checked through a ultrasound cause thats what they did with me also. That way they can see if your egg is getting to the right size and whats going on with your ovaries.
Wow it really surprises me that you got your period one week after ovulation.
Have you taken any ovulation detection tests during this time?
keep me posted i'm very curious to see what the tests will show.

and thats the hardest part...getting the hormones just right for conception..
good luck and keep in touch

Re: I have PCOS and wanted to share my story and give you hope

I wanted to tell you my experience with PCOS. I was officially diagnosed when I was 21 yrs old. I have had problems prior, that required me to go to the hospital. I was always told that I had folical cysts. They would give me a shot to cause the cyst to burst and send me home. No one ever said anything about PCOS.

My husband and I got married when I was 17. We waited two years to try and concieve. I went to my DR for my annual exam, that we had been trying to conceive with no luck. He did some testing. We meet a month later to discuss the result. From the results of my test as well as my family history I diagnosed with PCOS.

See my Mother had problem at a young age with Cysts and Fibroid Tumors. That resulted in her undergoing the LEAP procedure at 26 yrs of age and a full hysterectomy by 29 yrs.

Well my DR put me on Clomid. He started me out at 1 pill a day for 5 days. Then next cycle I went to 2 and by 6 months I was a 5 pills a day. I went through several blood test during this time, because I was display pregnancy symptoms (a side effect of the Clomid). Then at about 8 month after startinf Clomid I was sent to have my progesterone checked. A few days later I got a call from my DR office telling me "IT'S GOOD". A question my progesterone level is good. She said No it's a good pregnancy. I was excited and confused at the same time. See by that time I was starting to spot (I thought it was just my normal monthly). She had me come in right away, and I was started on Progesterone. Luckly 9 months later I gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Then about a year later I told my DR that I thought I might be pregnant. He told me that was impossible. I would not be able to get pregnant without Clomid. To my surprise, a monthly later it was confirmed I was pregnant. Without using Clomid. However this pregnancy do not go a smoothly. I went into preterm labor a 6 months. I had dialated 2 cm and full efaced. I was placed on complete bed rest. However I still had my son 1 month early. I am blessed though, with the exception a severe Guandice, He was healthy. Needless to say I'm doing with pregnancy.

Today my Daughter is 6 and my son will be 4. I am facing new challanges now. I am getting ready to turn the big 3-0. I went to my DR a couple of months ago again for my annual. After my exam he wanted to discuss his findings. He gave me 4 choices.

    1. An IUD to try and control the PCOS (since I suffer w/ Migraine the Pill is out of the question). I told me NO!!!

    2. An Endometrial Ablation, but this would only help with my cycle not w/ the PCOS. And it would only put off a Hysterectomy for another 5 years.

    3. A COMPLETE Hysterectomy, this is the only thing that would work because the source of my problems is in my ovaries.

    4. Do nothing and see where I am in 6 months.

I have discussed my option with my Husband, and we are leaning toward the Hysterectomy. We don't plan to have anymore children, and go through to medical procedures when one can take care of it all.

I pray that you don't have to go through the same ordeal as I have. And if You or anyone else has any advise for me I would love to hear it.

    Current Symptoms:

1 - Inability to loss weight
2 - excessive hair growth (especially on my chin)
    3 - Irregular cycles
    4 - Bleedy after intercourse
5 - Several Moody at time
6 - Hair loss (on my head)
