Can I see what I forgot in flashbacks? Anyone has similar experiences?

I thought I don't remember some moments of the car accident. But it's vivid in flashbacks. Is it just my imagination, or someone also remember things you thought you forgot then it shows in your flashbacks and dreams? Or, maybe there is no flashback, just my hallucination?

It's hard to say. I was the sole survivor of a head on crash last year, and was trapped in the car, covered in blood for several hours.
I gave my statement to the authorities, then after I looked at the photos, some things I was sure about weren't consistent with the photos. Windshield breakage being the primary. I might remember being in the life flight, but can't say for sure if it's a dream or a memory.
I was told by one of my psychiatrists that the mind will fill in blanks for you but they may not be correct. Sometimes I wonder if it's an actual memory, something my mind has created to protect me or something I'm piecing together from the photos, and not an actual memory. For example, the reports said I was screaming in "agony", witnesses and people that live in the house close to the site said the same thing. My husband told his folks he could hear me screaming when he got there. I don't remember screaming at all, but witnesses say otherwise. The mind has a funny way of protecting us from ourselves.
