    Father passed away ...

Can PTSD develop because of the loss of a parent? Has anyone experienced this and how long does it take to get better, is there a cycle?

    Thank you

I'm so sorry for your loss but yes, it was a traumatic event so you will have post traumatic stress. The post traumatic stress will slowly fade with time but of course you will never forget your father so you will have moments when you will cry it's normal but as long as you have good health, live pain free aside from the pain of his passing you will go on and be ok. Remember we will all go one day so look at it like you will see him soon one day...

    Hello MrsShirl,

I am very sorry for your loss. Wishing you peace, love and blessings.

No. The loss of a loved one due to an unexpected death from natural causes no longer falls into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder under the new criteria. There were revisions made, I believe, in 2013 and this was one of them.
