does ectopic pregnancy show as negative result?

My period is now 1 week and a half late, when usually it may be only 4 days late maximum. I've taken two HPTs and they were both negative....Can i trust these tests completely? I was also wondering something - I asked a pharmacist about how much you can rely on HPTs and she mentioned something about ectoptic pregnancies. So I want to ask if anyone knows if ectopic pregnancy shows up as negative on the pregnancy tests?

IMO pregnancy tests are 99% accurate and since you took 2 and they came up negative I would go with those results....if you don't wanna believe those then try getting to your nearest planned parenthood or a womens clinic and they can give you a urine or blood test just to make sure.

Re: does ectopic pregnancy show as negative result?

Even if, heaven forbid, you had an ectopic pregnancy, the embryo still has a placenta, just attached to the Fallopian tube rather than the uterus. Thus, the placenta will still secrete hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the hormone that is detected by pregnancy tests, and you'd get a positive result. I highly think you're pregnant at all, but if you would happen to get extreme cramping/bleeding, go to the hospital, just in case an ectopic pregnancy would occur. God bless!
