Sedatives for pap smear appointments? For SIL

My SIL is pregnant and is 30 years old and has never had a pap smear. I'm wondering if the doc can give her something to relax till she sees that it's not that bad. After all, she will have to be awake for delivery. However, to get her through this first visit I was wondering if any of you have heard of anything she could get to calm her down. I'm scared she won't even get it done. She just doesn't want other people touching her like that and she can't handle it. Any advice would be good.

If she has a problem with a pap smear, can you imagine the panik she is going to be in for the delivery?! All she has to do is talk to her doctor and explain her fears and the doctor, a good one anyway, will give her a play-by-play of what is happening as he's doing it. She does need to see a doctor if she's pg, definitely. If she's that nervous, maybe getting a woman doctor will help ease the tension. I really don't think that giving her something to ease the nervousness while she's pregnant isn't a really good idea. There is ABSOLUTELY no pain involved in a pap smear what-so-ever, only a little uncomfortableness.
