I just got back from the dermatologist regarding my acne/dry skin issues. She was soooo helpful. She recommended Cetaphil cleanser which you can buy over the counter at any pharmacy. I haven't used it yet, but she said her acne patients swear by it and it won't dry out my skin and is safe to use during pregnancy. She also gave me 2 prescriptions that are safe to use during pregnancy (Akne-mycin which is a moisturizing cream I can use in the morning under make-up, and Finacea which is a gel to use at night). I also have 2 small spots of dry, flaky skin that she said are eczema which showed up after I got pregnant and have been here for about a month. I've never had that before, but I guess that's a side-effect of being pregnant this time around. Anyway, just wanted to share with everyone else who is having acne issues in pregnancy what my dermatologist recommended. I'll post in a week or so and let you know how the Cetaphil cleanser works. She gave me samples of everything.

Definitely thank you for the update. And please do let us know how the Cetaphil works. I've heard of it and seen it but never tried it.

Re: Acne update - dermatologist recommendations
Cara, do you use the gel-like one in a bottle or the bar cleanser? She gave me samples of both. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm excited to finally try something that might work! I have spent so much money trying stuff that doesn't work for my dry/acne-proned sensitive skin. This pregnancy is making my skin worse. I'm glad I finally have PPO insurance and can go to the dermatologist without a referral (I asked my regular doctor for a referral in the past and she wouldn't give me one).
Lynn, I think you can get it at any pharmacy/grocery store that sells facial cleansers. It's not a dpartment store cleanser, just an off the shelf one that you can find just about anywhere.
