Question tums, how much is too much?

I have got heartburn so bad (every minute seems like) so today I bought some Tums quick dissolve. My question is how many tums is too much to take in one day? It doesn't say anything on the back of the bottle about pregnant women so I didn't know. I don't want to hurt the baby.

Chris (23 weeks 4 days)

Re: tums, how much is too much?

Hi, i am 22 weeks and having TERRIBLE heart burn and acid reflux, well i think thats what it is, a terrible buring in the back of my throat --you ask a good question, as i am wondering the same thing--yesterday i had taken about 8 or maybe more of them through out the day and night, well i woke up with bad stomach pains and had "you know what" ( TMI!! ) spent a good time in the bathroom in pain, i was wondering if i had too many tums or something --im sorry i couldnt offer you any advice, maybe someone else can help us?

I'm not positive, but I think you can take the recommended dosage thats on the back of the bottle regardless if you are pregnant or not. TUMS are good caz they give you more calcium! On the back of the bottle that I have which is TUMS extra strength E.X it says don't take more then 10 tablets within 24 hours!

This is what it says ont he back of my bottle of regular strength tums...Adults and pregnant women-->chew 2-4 tablets as needed. Consult a physician is symptoms persist beyond 2 weeks or recur....Maximum-->pregnant women: 7 tablets/day

I wouldn't take more than the recommended dose, but if you are taking a lot every day, you should talk to your doctor about taking something stronger and more preventative. When Tums weren't cutting it for me, my doctor told me to take Zantac 75 (up to 4 a day). That worked for a while gradually increasing to 4 a day plus the Tums. Then she told me to take Prilosec OTC (once a day), which has really helped.

hi my packet says pregnant women no more than 7 in 24 hours.i dont think you should worry to much if you've taken to many tho,i used to be on a very strong prescribed antacid to help with my sickness, which has thankfully subsided! the heartburn is still very much there and for some reason i cant stand the lemon ones anymore!anyway take care and know your not the only one!
