Heartburn - Pg symptom?

Hi everyone!

Just one of those dumb symptom questions....

I am 11DPO. I am exhibiting various possible symptoms of pregnancy but many of them are normal for me. However, something that is abnormal is heartburn off and on today and yesterday. Is this a pregnancy symptom? And if so what causes it?

Re: Heartburn - Pg symptom?

I don't know what causes it, I do know the larger you are the more likely you will have acid reflux/heartburn problems. I know I was given Zantac with my 1st pregnancy and thought some of my complaints of morning sickness could have been attributed to it. And haven't had any problems with it since had my dear son. I would get occasionally like 1 every other month but when I got pregnant again it came back and I started the Zantac earlier and has helped alot in the a.m. with that sick feeling. Good luck.

Yes it is a symptom of pg, but I don't think it would be for this early though. It is caused more when the baby gets bigger and starts pushing and pressing on everything. good luck

Like someone else said, it is a symptom, but I don't know if it's one of those early symptoms or not. I have it all day everyday practically, but I'm at 33 weeks. I don't really remember having it really early on. But who knows, everyone is different, so maybe this is a symptom for you...good luck!!! Let us know what happens.

Re: Heartburn - Pg symptom?

Hi Laurabelle,

As everyone has said, heartburn is most defintely a symptom of pregnancy. I don't think it actually has to do with how big you yourself are, although as the baby grows it defintely gets worse. I didn't get it until 24 weeks or so but this pregnancy thing seems to be different for all of us. Your pregnancy hormones may still be making your stomach upset which can cause extra acid.

If you check through these boards, you will find a lot of references to heartburn. People have tried everything from changing the way they eat (frequent small meals as opposed to three large ones) to chewing Tums all day long to taking a Pepcid twice a day. This is what I am doing now at 34 weeks and it really helps.

Good luck, try to see what works for you. Talk with your doctor.
