Extreme leg pain at night

My girlfriend is 4 1/2 months along, and for the past month or so, she has been staying awake at night with extreme pain in her legs, mostly in her calves. I have to rub her legs until she falls asleep.

Has anybody else experienced this? What could it be?

Re: Extreme leg pain at night

They could also be leg cramps. I had the pleasure (sarcasm) of experiencing my first just the other night. It has remained sore since then and even makes walking difficult. According to my preggo book, flexing the toes toward your nose can help. Doing several of those before bed and drinking plenty of fluid throughout the day. Some of this pain can be caused by fluid retention. You can also try applying heat to the affected area.

Re: Extreme leg pain at night

What a nice boyfriend to rub her legs! My husband doesn't do anything for my aches. I've had sciatica for 11 weeks now, and I've asked him to rub my back for just a minute. Nope. He seems to think because aches & pains are normal, I don't need any special treatment.

Re: Extreme leg pain at night

Hi there
I also experienced this pain and my Dr put it down to cramp. I was also told to eat more bananas as they are high in potassium which is good for cramping. Hope this helps

Re: Extreme leg pain at night

There are also excersices to do to ward off leg cramps. Some pregnancy books have them, or look them up on the net.
