Question Does anyone know what HCT count means?

I needed to get a proof of pregnancy letter from my doctor and on the letter she wrote my HCT count on 7/13/05 was 34.6. What does this mean exactly and what does HCT count mean?

Is it HCG, maybe? HCG is a pregnancy hormone - actually it is the main pregnancy hormone. It's what home pregnancy tests are looking for in your urine. Sorry I can't be more specific about what HCG is.

HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin. It is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. Home pregnancy tests (HPTs) are designed to detect it. Your HCG levels should double every 2-3 days.

An HCT (hematocrit) is the percent of whole blood that is composed of red blood cells. The hematocrit is a measure of both the number of red blood cells and the size of red blood cells.

SO I believe you do mean HCG as HCT isn't a routine test for Pregnancy.

    Hope this helps!

No it is hematocrit. She was suppose to put my hematocrit and my hemoglobin but she didn't put the hempglobin. I was just wondering what it means that my HCT count was 34.6.

    Hi -

That's in the low normal range for a hematocrit, HCT, but getting close to being anemic. Your HGB, or hemoglobin, has a normal range of about 12-16. As one goes down, so does the other, so your HGB may also be low. Guess you'll have to call the office and ask about the HGB.

    Wishing you well - Barbara
