Baby's heartbeat seems low to me. Worried. Help!

My DH and I rented a home doppler when I was about 10 weeks pregnant. It took awhile before we were able to find the fetal heartbeat, but we've been able to hear it since 11 weeks. At that time, the baby's heart rate was about 155 (consistently). I am now 15 weeks pregnant and the baby's heart rate has dramatically decreased. Now it runs between 135 and 140. I know that normal is between 120-160, but I'm not comforted by that, especially when I talk to so many other pregnant women, who report heart rates much higher than my baby's.

I've tried checking it at different times of the day (e.g. after eating, resting, walking, etc.) It still falls within this range.

Is there anyone else out there that had a fetal heart rate between 135-140 around 15 weeks pregnant, or at any time? Was your doctor concerned?

The other thing that concerns me is that my best friend told me that lower heart rates are highly correlated with birth defects, such as Downs Syndrome. Does anyone know if this is true?

    Please help, I'm scared.

ours was 160 until about our 15th week and has been between 130-140 everyday.
When the babys heart starts beating its very fast and gradually slows down. It sounds good to me.

    hi sea breezes
if it is within normal range there really seems no reason to worry easier said than done i guess thats a mommys job to worry. in the uk they don't tell you the heartrate at least i am 28 weeks and have never been told so at least i have one last thing to worry about phew for me.

My little guy has been around 140 since about 12/13 weeks. I'm 32 weeks now and it's still the same. Doc always says it's good. I wouldn't worry. When I'm hooked up to the fetal monitor at his office it goes from 130-155 up and down during the half hour I lay there.
