prenatal vitamins turning my pee green?

Hi, I'm new here and need some help. My mother-in-law is EXTREMELY health conscious and just sent me some food based prenatal vitamins. I have to take 6 a day and they are whole foods and supposedly really good ones...except that ever since I started taking them my pee is bright green! It is really freaking me out and not sure if its good for the baby or me, but they are prenantal vitamins made for pregnant women, so do I need to worry or what??! Thanks for any replies!

Re: prenatal vitamins turning my pee green?

Well I am not sure about bright green, but my prenatal vitamins turn my pee neon yellow! I am willing to bet it's just because of the potency of the vitamins... probably not something to worry about. You should ask your doc though next appt... just to be sure. Good luck and I hope everything turns out okay!!!

Thank you linsey! Anything slightly reassuring helps me. I just wasn't sure if you could overdose on vitamins. I noticed that the B-vitamin (B-1 and B-2) %DV is at 1765%. Thats alot!

I've heard of numerous women who say their pee turns yellow and green.
So I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you aren't experiencing any pains, it's probably very normal.

Re: prenatal vitamins turning my pee green?

Before you take them anymore, I would compare the labels to other pre-natal vitamins you can buy OTC... if any of the numbers are WAY off (like the B's) you might want to ask your doctor about them.

It's amazing how much we eat/drink that comes out in urine -- when I drink a lot of coffee (not anymore!) my urine smells like coffee. When my husband eats lots of habenero peppers (the REALLY hot ones) even his urine is "hot"!

I took the Rx prenatal vitamin samples that my doc gave me (three different brands) and each one changed my urine color/smell a little. I'm glad to be back on my ol' Walgreen's brand and everything is a normal color now.
