High Cholesterol in Pregnancy

I had a free health check up at work today and I was surprised and disappointed to see my numbers especially cholesterol. Here are the details:

Total Cholesterol: 227
HDL (Good Cholesterol): 61
LDL (bad Colesterol): 125

I have never had choletserol, in test last year my cholesterol was 160. Can pregnancy cause a spike in cholesterol levels? Should I be concerned about

I am 29 years old and not obese, I have a fairly healthy lifestyle, i exercise regularly and eat healthy.

has anyone gone through similar issues?

I wouldn't worry about it, as the increase seems to be almost entirely in your "good" cholesterol. Anything above 40 is great for HDL; anything below 130 is okay for LDL. You're okay on both scores.

Thaanks, I am cocerned as there is a 75 pt jump in total cholesterol from 155 to 227 in one year. Is this common like gestational diabetes? My BP and glucose are normal.

Your inputs will be appreciated.

Yes, I had this happen to me too. They told me that the pregnancy causes a lot of things think that to go out of whack. Check it again after you are six weeks postpartum to make sure it goes down. Hopefully, mine will be normal when I go back after my six weeks check up in two more weeks.

I saw your post and I just wanted to tell you that the pregnancy whacks all these numbers out. My primary does not do blood at all while I'm pregnant, because he says he would not get accurate readings until after I deliver. So I will not get my yearly blood work done until I am maybe 2 or 3 months postpartum. Don't let it bother you. This is why he says routine blood should never be done during pregnancy unless of course they are looking for something special like blood counts and stuff.
