paternity testing

My b/f doesnt know if he is the father of this girl's baby, she is having it on wednesday. How much does a paternity test cost? do they draw blood right when the baby is born to determine it, can they do this right away? but my main question is how much will this cost at the hospital?

Re: paternity testing

i used to work in the lab at the hospital and although paternity testing was rare i remember them saying it is between 300 and 500 depending on where you have it tested. i know at our lab it was around 350. they are definatley not cheap. i think though that if you waited until she filed for child support the court could order a paternity test if your boyfriend asked for one. but i am not really sure. you should definately look into that as an option if you are wanting to save money. you could also get in touch with the lab and find out if they are willing to accept payments. good luck and i hope you get the answer you want!

Re: paternity testing

if he waits for her to file for child support and he asks for proof, the court will give him a test for free. same thing happen to my boyfriend, and he turned out not to be the dad.

Re: paternity testing

I don't know where you guys are, but in Indiana the cost of the test is usually split between the parents. The courts don't do anything for free. Someone is going to have to pay for it. You can do a search for your area since there are private labs that charge different prices.

Re: paternity testing

It must not be exorbitant ($350 doesn't sound ridiculous for the peace of mind that comes from knowing yes/no) since the "walk in clinic" near my house advertises paternity tests on their changeable sign outside their office.
