    nuchal fold test -questions

I am having this test in a few weeks and have a few questions. How long does this test take? Is it done by internal/vaginal ultrasound? Will I get the results right away? Is there a blood test that accompanies the test? Thanks!

    Re: nuchal fold test -questions

Hello, I had mine done of course on my 1st trim, the nuchal fold and the first blood test (integrated testing combined) and the nuchal fold is the first part, the technician took 20-30 mins. on my belly doing an external U/S. The doctor later came in and did it again and he told me the result of the nuchal fold (only) right away. He said it was normal. Then the blood test, they just took one vial of blood. But the results will not be told until you go for the 2nd blood test during your 2nd trimester. It was mind boggling to wait but it was well worth it. I received a call from my geneticist a week after the 2nd test. It was a spread of about almost to 3 mos. I am now 22 weeks (today). Goodluck and keep me posted with the results.

    Re: nuchal fold test -questions

I'm having this test in 2wks. I'm having the nuchal u/s and blood test for papp-A. They can tell you the results from the u/s right away, but it's the combination of the u/s and the blood test that gives you the highest accuracy (90% vs 70% if you only look at the u/s). They have to combine both to give you final risk. At my center, the results are given 24hrs later.

Like the previous poster said, you can have another blood test in second trimester, 15-16wks, to get even higher accuracy (I think 95% or 97%).

So you should find out right away, my test in on friday, so they said they will phone me with the results on monday (b/c of the weekend, I have to wait a bit longer).

    Good luck.
