Question 5 weeks pregnant..Insomnia!

Hi Ladies, I am 5 weeks pregnant (thrilled!) but have had insomnia for over 2 weeks. Is this normal in so early in pregnancy?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Re: 5 weeks pregnant..Insomnia!

Congratulations!! I can't really say. I know that in my first trimester (I am 22 wks now with my first) I had some trouble sleeping at night. I think it was mostly the excitement of this new phase of my life, and also my anxiety over thinking I would have morning sickness. Anyway, the sleepless nights went away probably starting my second trimester. Good luck!

Chalk it up to anxiety, probably. Usually insomnia doesn't start until the second trimester, though. Congrats!

Re: 5 weeks pregnant..Insomnia!

It actually started way before I found out I was pregnant. In retrospect, now I know why I was having insomnia, must be the hormones. The insomnia has continued... Each night I go to bed at about 9:30pm and get up around 3:30-4:30am and am up for the day. Maybe it is already nature's way of preparing me for the night shift when my baby arrives. In any case, I have never had this crazy of sleep patterns ever. I have always slept through the night!..Interesting!

I had insomnia in my first trimester something fierce. I think it went away, tho, later on.

Re: 5 weeks pregnant..Insomnia!

Hi there,

With my first pregnancy I had insomnia very badly!! I've always struggled off & on with it...but it got worse when I was pregnant. It started almost right away (although the first couple of weeks I think the lack of sleep was due to excitment and anxiety).

With my current pregnancy (#2) I've only had a few sleepless nights...could be due to the fact that I have a 16 month old DD to REALLY wear me out during the day.

Good luck!
