Gestational diabetes......testing??

Can any of you ladies answer a ? on GD? I had the pre-GD testing at my dxs office (you drink orange syrup and exactly 1 hr. later you get your blood drawn) The test came back and my dx says that I am very slightly elevated soooo I have to have the actual 3-hr. fasting test. Not a happy camper. My ? is have any of you ladies failed the first 1hr.test and then have the 3-hr. fast follow-up and been negative on the test?? I really hope I do not have gestational diabetes although in reality it looks grim b/c diabetes runs on both sided of my parents families.

Help would be really appreciated here,

Thanks so much,

Re: Gestational diabetes......testing??

hi, my df has diabetes and has had it for 3+ yrs now. she did not have it when she was pg with her two dd's but did fail the one hour tests with them both and had to have the three hour tests. she passed both of those and was able to continue her regular diet. This is pretty common for pg women and with proper diet and maybe insulin during the rest of the pg all should be fine. You do have a higer chance of having a big baby though and sometimes they take it early. So far with this pg, she has to check her glucose levels 5 times a day by pricking her finger but has been able to just maintain it with diet. You will probably pass your three hour test, but it is just a precaution. good thing we have this kind of medical technology to help all of you precious women and babies. Please try not to worry. Afterall, Val has diabetes right now and it's not a black or white disease, it's alot of gray area and can be controlled. With just being slightly elevated, you may be able to get it to go down with frequent walking as well and watching the amount of sugar and carbohydrates that you eat. Here's wishing the best to you ! Any more questions, we will try to answer. Take care <IMG SRC="">

Re: Gestational diabetes......testing??

I failed the 3hr test...I had to see a dietician and do the diebetic diet and check my levels by pricking my fingers 4 times a day. The diet is not hard to follow at all, my levels seem ok through out the day, but 1st thing in the morning it is really high. The hardest part about the 3hr test is not being able to eat. I had that test while I was still feeling sick quite abit, espeically when I didn't eat.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Best Wishes to All!!
