I was wondering,

I am about 4 months now, dd is Aug 23rd and I went for an u/s when I was 15 weeks and 5 days and the heart rate was I believe 160 or something, that seems high....

I heard that if its over 140 that its a girl and under 140 its a boy, any one know? Any experience with this???Just need input

Re: boy/girl??

I asked a similar question a while ago on this board and everyone said it was just a wivestale. If anyone knows differently, I would love to know.

Re: boy/girl??

Just a wivestale as far as I know. We've tracked our baby's heartrate since it first started beating. Since week 6 to now week 22 it has consistently been between 162 - 166 bpm, which would indicate a girl, but he's definitely all boy. Try to stick it out a few more weeks until your ultrasound and you'll discover who's in there for sure. But I wouldn't count on heartrates in the interim, as in my case they flat out lied!

P.S. - Congratulations on your continuingly healthy pregnancy! I knew we'd make it out of those miscarriage woods this time.

Re: boy/girl??

I have heard it is an old wivestale. The bigger the baby gets the more the heartrate will slow. You know how a rat has a really fast heartbeat but an adult male has a slower one?? It is the same kind of principle with babies. The bigger they get the more their heart rate slows. Plus, if the heartrate thing was son would be a girl. As much as I wanted one I wanted to believe the h/b thing. Too bad! They also say if you have a lot of heartburn the baby will have hair. That's a lie!! Both my son and my brother were born with tons of hair!!! And not one day of heartburn in sight!! The other thing that threw me off too with my son is I carried him REALLY high. Everyone just knew it was a girl b/c of how high I was carrying him! Oh well. Even the u/s aren't correct about gender sometimes!! A friend of mine was told she was having a boy..bought all boy stuff..her baby came out missing a few was a girl!! And she was sooo happy to find out it was..she didn't want a boy!! HAHA! I guess we really can't be sure. Unless we have a amnio or CVS done.(YUCK!!)

Smile, life doesn't last that long.

Re: boy/girl??

Okay, I carried my first one really low (girl) and had no heartburn (she had tons of hair). And according to all the old wives tales, I should be having a boy this time, but lo and behold, its another girl! Dont believe ANYTHING you hear while pregnant! lol
