A few drinks?

O.K. so I was a bad girl and a a couple of drinks at the pub with my friend who is leaving tomorrow with the reserves...bad, bad, bad. For those of you reading my post, I'm supposed to find out tomorrow if I'm pg. Somehow, I feel down deep inside that the results are going to come back negative. Sorry for being pessimistic, but I thought that when the time comes that I do conceive, I would know it and my body has played soooooo many tricks on me before, I just have succumbed to feeling this way. Anyhow, I just got to thinking, that MANY women started out having fun before they found out they were pg and their babies (well, most of them) turned out almost perfect (I say almost because-nobody is perfect). And I had a really crappy day (and crampy). So, I did it, had a couple of beers (2 Guinness' to be exact) and one double shot (hardly) of tequila. I know what you are all thinking--the first couple of weeks are the most crucial for the development of a baby's life, but I gave into temptation and will do my penance all weekend long! Ya know what?? My mother-in-law smoked with all 3 of her pregnancies and had all of them natural and they all weighed in at a whopping 8-9 lbs. They are all have Polish and Mexican! And...I was feeling kind of down, so I drank them down quickly, and now I'm here for support...please! Regardless, I will send a special post to all of my ttc'ers as soon as I find out the results tommorow. My DH will probably be at work and it's hard to get a hold of him there, he'll have to wait! Well, if anyone's logged on, please reply. I'm going to take a shower and check back later. I've got to get to bed soon--work has been a great strain (who would of thought working for a Customs law firm would be so tough??? ) Thank you all for being here! And sorry for the typos, I usually type my messages in Word and paste them in here once I've spell checked, but what the hell!!!
[This message has been edited by mommarican (edited 02-21-2003).]

Re: A few drinks?

Don't feel bad. Yes most children are conceived after the parents have been drinking. The doctors even told us that smoking marajuana was about the most benign thing you could do, but not to do it again because they don't know the long term effects. We happened to go to a party and met some old high school friends and they had it, so we did it. Val felt major guilt even though we had no idea at the time that we were pg. We have not done it nor will we ever do it again (well for the next 20 yrs or so), but the guilt was there. after talking with the doc, he assured us to just let it go. All will be fine, just don't drink anymore until you find out for sure. Take care p.s. Enjoy your night and don't worry

Don't feel bad! It isn't as if you do it every day! I'm sure once or twice over a long period isn't going to hurt anything. Please don't go stressing yourself out because of it.

Thoughts are with you for your appt hope all goes well.

Hey MJMoon...! Stop beating yourself up. I totally understand how you are feeling (we are in the same boat). I guess I figure until I know for sure that I am pregnant, a drink or two isn't going to hurt anything. I remember having a few drinks on a few occasions when I was pregnant with my first daughter but it was definitely before I knew I was pregnant. But tequila!!!! Yikes!!!! What a girl!!!! LOL I can't handle that stuff on my best (or worst) day! I can't wait until you find out! I am on day 42 myself...but I think if I ovulated (judging by temps) it was six days ago and I now have 5 days of high temps. If I can go five more without starting AF, there is still a chance for being pg! Despite the negative blood draw two days ago. Are you temping (I can't remember...senility)? Are your temps elevated? Anyway, please don't fret and worry. You are human and allowed to have a drink now and then. Once you know you are pregnant, I would definitely abstain, but you don't know you QUIT WORRYING!!!!

Re: A few drinks?

My sister-in-law was a bridesmaid in her friend's wedding. She was 8wks pg at the time, but didn't know it. Anyway, she got SLOPPY drunk, to the point of being sick the entire next day and found out she was pg that next week! She felt terrible and worried her whole pg! That child is now 14 years old and the State Champion Wrestler for the state of IOWA. He is adorable, smart and good at every sport you can imagine! So....Try to'll be fine! Baby Dust to you! Jodie

Re: A few drinks?

Don't worry about it al all. We know that there are people who do a lot worse and still have healthy babies. My sister in law drank everyday throughout her pregnancy and had a healthy 8lb baby. Besides if you do not even know if you are pg or not it was not selfish. As well the doctor told one of my friends that the baby does not start feeding off the mother until the 8wk. period. So like the others have said Relax
Sending baby dust your way,

Re: A few drinks?

So, I have a friend who is English. His mom's doctor prescribed that she drink a Guiness a week during her pregnancy to raise her iron levels. And he has a Ph.D. in Chemistry!

Does that make you feel better?

Your baby will be fine. Just try to avoid alcohol in the future.

Oh yeah - also - Guiness has a very low alcohol content - only 4.2% compared to over 5% for American beers.
