Post Pregnancy Info for Teens (or anyone else)-edited

It gets me and so many others so upset when having to reply to kids who may/may not be pregnant. I thought it would be a good idea to come up with a standard guide that any of us could use to reply to those with basic questions. Not to be harsh or mean just a guideline so we can eliminate all our pessimism and not keep wasting time replying to the same questions. I'm not much for writing skills so if anyone else wants to volunteer and put the whole thing together as one big message let me know. Please add to what I have written or edit it too. Otherwise I will try to do it. Please temper your comments as I really want to make this a positive thing. Plus, if we constantly use a standardized comment, I am sure the board will not keep being inundated with questions that have been answered numerous times.

    1. You can get pregnant during any time within your cycle (even during your period).
    2. Precum has a higher sperm count than *** so although he didn't go in, any sperm anywhere can cause you to become pregnant. Sperm can survive for up to 5 days inside the body (may be even longer). It can survive outside the body for up to 12 hours.
    3. You can technically be a virgin and become pregnant although there is only a slight chance of this occurring(see #2).
    4. If you are late, get a home pregnancy test and take it. Any positive sign (even faint) on a pregnancy test indicates that you are pregnant. There are only false negatives, not false positives. You should always use first morning urine when taking a pregnancy test as it has the highest levels of HcG. You can take an HPT as early as the day your period is due or whatever the directions say (some are even earlier).
    5. If the at home test is negative then to be 100% sure, you should get a blood test. You can have false negatives.
    6. Condoms should always be worn as protection against STD's. Don't ever "trust" anyone. Even oral cold sores are considered a version of herpes that can be caught below. Signs of STD can be latent and your partner can be a carrier. They may not even know it.
    7. The pill is not fool proof nor is any other method of birth control. Antibiotics taken will reduce the effects of the pill.
    8. There are free clinics to get the morning after pill, condoms, pregnancy tests, etc. The doctors are NOT allowed by law to tell your parents anything so go as soon as possible.
    9. For those of you who have had sex for the first time, the hormone changes will impact your cycle and may cause it to be late.
    10. Nervousness may cause your period to be late.
    11. You can have period like symptoms including bleeding and still be pregnant.
    12. Drugs, smoking and alcohol are dangerous. Yes, they can cause injuries to an unborn fetus but, the sooner you stop, the better the babies chances of surviving are.
    13. Try to get some guidance from someone you can trust. Do not be afraid of your parents, they are much more understanding than you think (they were once kids and believe me I bet they knew others who were in your shoes).
    14. If you are pregnant please seek help from an ob/gyn as soon as possible. You need to be checked out for both your healths plus need to be put on vitamins.
    15. If you are thinking about terminating your pregnancy. Please seek guidance prior to making your decision (see #13&14) and please be discreet as there are many members of this board who have been trying so hard and long to be in your situation. This decision will impact you for your lifetime and it should not be decided upon without thought. I will not lecture on this topic.
16.if you are not ready to be pregnant and do not want to be pregnant... DON'T HAVE SEX! NOTHING is 100% effective! Even BC methods fail!!
17.If after reading the above, you still have questions please post them. Reminder there is also another forum "Sexual Health for Teens" that you can post to.
    17. SYMPTOMS of PREGNANCY may include ANY or NONE of the following symptoms: missed period, tiredness, nausea, bloating, spotting, cramping, gassiness, constipation, food cravings or sudden dislikes, hot flashes, increased sensitivity to smells and taste, headached, flu like symptoms, tender/sore nipples.............
18.If any of the above surprise you, then you may want to take a class in sexual education or speak with a counselor prior to continuing engaging in sexual activity. Not knowing would indicate that you are not mature enough to understand the full ramifications of sex.
