Okay, this is the 3rd time in two years this thing has come back on me--at least I'm guessing that's what it is this time--the pain in my lower back, scrotum, hips, and the abdominal area just above my genitals hurts like h3ll twice over. I'm taking tramadol, but it barely dents it in terms of relieving the pain.

Any herbs or supplements anyone has had luck with?

All the symptoms are the same and I'm becoming weaker and weaker and less able to get around as the pain increases. My GP put me on a high dose Anti-bacterial/infection killing thing that I'm almost out of with no relief in sight.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Re: Prostatitis

Your symptoms sound like prostatitis but there are many more forms of
prostatitis than bacterial. Since your anti-bacterial antibiotic hasn't
brought relief it is likely that it is another type. Non-bacterial prostatiis
accounts for more than 9 out of 10 cases according to leading urologist
authorities but they seem to always try antibiotics first. I now think
that is done so as to eliminate infections in bladder, kidneys and prostate
before proceeding furthur. I have had four bouts so far and always am
given a month or more antibiotics which so far have not really worked.
The pain always goes away eventually for me, sometimes taking more
than two months.
Usually recommended for relief are sitz baths, sitting in hot water for
twenty or thirty minutes a couple of times a day. The heat often brings
some level of relief. Also some have benefited from prostate massage
which a urologist can show you to do for yourself. You should probably ask for a DRE, a digital rectal exam of your prostate to determine its size as well
as how painful it will be for you. If very painful then you can be sure
it's prostatitis and not kidney or bladder problems and size will indicate
degree of inflammation.
Are you having any urinary issues? Burning or electric while urinating?
Ache especially after urination? How long have you been on antibiotics?
Hopefully at least a month. Since you have had this in the past it is
probably the chronic form.

Re: Prostatitis

Thanks for writing back--yeah, I'm guessing it is chronic, as if I needed another chronic illness. Yep, about a month on Anti-biotics now I'm on something called Terazosin.

Anyway--yeah, warm baths help. Sometimes there's burning, sometimes theres not. A feeling of not completely relieving myself usually accompanies it.

Thank you again.
