Oftenever- casting a rsd limb, not a good idea.
Hi Oftenever,

I am sorry to hear about your broken leg,

Casting a limb with someone with rsd is not a good idea. You should not immobilize a limb with someone who has rsd. Someone who already has rsd and injurys a new body part has a chance of spread and immobilizing the limb makes the chance higher.

That is how my rsd started. If you go to any rsd web site and look at things that are not good with people who have rsd casting is one of them.

I would seriously talk to your dr. about this.

I hope it all works out good for you. Keep us posted on how you make out.

I hope you have a pain free day.

Just to add to what Cattys said because there are times when a cast cannot be avoided or if it is, the bone doesn't heal correctly and can cause more problems than CRPS alone.

If the limb must be casted, learn what the signs of comprimised circulation, due to the cast, are.
If the cast must be put on, wiggle those toes often and walk as much as you are able as well as elevate the limb.

It is possible to still maintained good circulation even with a cast. Ask the doctor exactly what signs to look for, and respond immediately by getting the cast changed or removed if your circulation is jeopordized further.
