    Question frozen shoulder?!?!

Looks more and more like I have a frozen shoulder and not truly RSD. I see the RSD specialist Tuesday. My symptoms back in January were severe pain in my hand and shoulder, swelling, discoloration, sensitivity, and a mottled look. I still can't move my thumb real well after 4 1/2 months of therapy and the range of motion in my shoulder is limited. My pain level is maintained with 1000mg of Neurontin which I have gradually cut back to 700mg. There is still minimal swelling yet the coloring has stayed good since the stellate block. I get the zaps of pain all over, not just in my affected limb. i hope the RSD guy can clear up the confusion once and for all. Did RSD cause the frozen shoulder or did the frozen shoulder cause RSD-like symptoms? They will sedate me for the frozen shoulder and under anaesthetic they will manipulate my arm to break the adhesions. Then I go on a CPM machine for a week or so. Has anyone had this done? How bad is it? 1-10 Cheryl

Yes, I developed RSD due to surgery on my ulnar nerve. After my cast was removed I wouldn't move my arm/hand/fingers at all because the pain from the RSD was to severe. Every joint froze, shoulder/elbow/wrist/fingers. I have had a hard time of it with the manipulations along with the pain of RSD. It took 5 manipulations of my elbow and shoulder along with CPM machines and Therapy. They start on my hand next week, they will do the wrist and fingers and hopefully it won't be as long but I have the worst pain in the hand area so it might be the worst for me to go thru. Without RSD I imagine it would have only taken the one manipulation. You will be bruised and will need to keep ice on your shoulder for at least the first 24 hrs. With me I kept it on for about 3 days, I have 6 ice packs this way I always have 2 0r 3 ready to use. I had my shoulder and elbow done at the same time.

It does work, you will regain movement but it is very painfil so make sure you have enough pain meds and ice packs to get you thru it.

    Good luck

    Hi Cheryl,

I hope you find out soon. I've also had a manipulation of my knee and it wasn't bad at all. Long time ago, but I remember swelling and some pain. I guess it's different for everyone depending on how long it's been "stuck" and so on. I've also used CPMs for my knee. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
