Question Question on suspicious emails

Hi again everyone. I have a question about emails that we've been receiving. In one of my other post that I've made here in the "Relationships" board I've pointed out that my husband had been visiting porn sites. Here is my question, we are receiving a ton of emails on "Viagra", "Vicodin" and other pain killing drugs. How are they getting my email address. I'm suspecting that my spouse has been looking into purchasing these perhaps and then it's just a trickle down. Does anyone else get these ads for these particular drugs having never visited a site for them??

Limille, that's not necessarily from your husband visiting porn sites. I don't visit porn sites and I get the same thing as you almost 3x's daily in my email. I get almost 100 emails a day (between 2 emaill addy's). Alot of from penis enlargement ads, viagra, pharmaceutical companies advertising vicodin, ambien and hundreds of weight loss ads, and also some from porn sites (that I hate 'cause I can't remove myself from their mailing lists). I try to delete them and click on unsubscribe and then I get "page cannot be displayed" or if I have to "to unsubscribe" I have to go to the porn site to unsubscribe. So now, that crap is just multiplying in my email and I am frustrated and just click delete, delete, delete....
I think that because I applied to read about weight-loss ads in my email, penis enlargement and pharmaceutical stuff comes with it. It's not necessarily your husband visiting porn sites. This is also happening to some "holy rollers" that I know. It's internet contagious email addy sharing among companies.

Same here, i get a tonne of spam emails for just about everything eg: how to buy a university diploma, penis enlargements, viagra, porn sites of all forms etc.

Just like companies buy your personal details and send you junk mail or phone you at home, companies can buy your email details to email you all forms of spam. You don't have to visit a site to be getting that type of spam mail.

I realise if somebody has been behaving suspiciously it's easy to start jumping to conclusions. A friend of mine who is 31 and not into the club/bar scene has recently put her details onto an internet dating site. She wanted me to check out her profile and to view some of the guys who have shown interest in her profile. Now this dating sites details appear on my history and if my husband were to look at the history he could very well think i was looking for another man, which isn't the case at all. Sometimes there are valid reasons for why things come up in the history and junk emails you receive.

ditto on that i get them too , there is a big thing going on with spam , thats not enough to go on, your husband might have been in a site once or twice but everyone is curious about certain things that isnt anything to base on
why not go into deleted mail see if they are emailing eachother and he deletes the mail also if you both have he same email account i highly doubt you will find anything unless he has another account you dont know about , go into your cookies on the computer it usually can tell you where the computer has been

Hi limilli,
I get at least a hundred a day and it all started once I made a genealogy web site and posted my email adddress on the site so other descendants could contact me. I have never went to those porn sites but if someone was to look at my email they would think that was all I ever do! :-) I agree with the other posters about checking the history and cookies if you want to see where he has been on the net. Keep in mind if he knows his way around the computer it is very easy to clear any discriminating evidence.

Everyone is right. I get these things too and I DONT view porn sites and I NEVER do any drugs. I think its just "spam" mail. Now, I have had others use my computer in the past as well. But these trash email ads do come to my computer from time to time as well

If your husband is having erectile dysfunction he could be looking into Viagra or Vicodin if he's in pain. It's embarassing for some people to admit certain problems to their doctors, and you can be somewhat anonymous online.
On the other hand it could just be spam. I get offers for breast enlargement pills all the time! lol
There are ways to block e-mail that you may want check out. I'm not sure if this is true, but someone told me that if you get spam don't unsubscribe to the e-mail. Just ignore it or block it. By unsubscribing they know you're a real person and you are in effect answering them.

This really doesn't have anything to do with the question at hand....

Everyone gets the Viagra, Porn, Penis enlargement crap. First of all be leary of having them "take you off their list" once you reply to it then they know it's a "working email" and therefore will get even more crap.

Second, call your internet provider and complain - everyday if you have to. Our internet provider now has a filter to filter out the porn, penis, viagra etc. They keep it in a quarentined (sp) box and you can go through and check to make sure none of your legit email went there. (If someone sends you a joke about a penis or something it may go to the quarentined). Our quarentined doesn't like AOL to much because I seem to find a lot of AOL stuff in there.

Complain to your interent provider they should do something to help remedy this problem.

Third, if you for some reason go to the porn sites or whatnot - delete the sites from your history and go to your cookies and delete the cookies - that would help cut down on the crappy spam mail you get too. (Unless you sign up for something then your stuck - but if you sign up then you should be able to unsign up) Hope that makes some sense.

I don't look at porn and i still get this type of spam mail in my email, so i can guarantee you that it's got nothing to do with whether or not you look at porn.
