I just joined but have suffered with rls for 30 years. The thing that troubles me is why, if I can get my mind off of it, it goes away, until I think about it again. If I'm driving and can put on some good music that I really like or if I can get into a good conversation or when I'm home and really get into a t.v. show that holds my attention, it doesn't bother me. As soon as my mind has idle time, it's back. It's almost like a mental problem. I've thought about hypnosis to se if they can make me forget that I ever had it.
Anybody else have similar situations or explanations?

Re: explanations?

Your symptoms are common, especially for severe/long term RLS. It’s not a metal problem but a biological problem. When you think of it you probably need to take meds after that? The thought triggers your brain to take meds which will in turn up your dopamine levels. A good analogy would be food cravings. Sometimes, if you think of chocolate cake or any other “mouth watering” cravings your mouth starts secreting saliva. You were fine until you started thinking about it. The thought triggers a biological response.
