Finacea Foam question
I have mild rosacea and have been using Finacea gel for years, and it's worked fine. During my last derm visit my doctor suggested I try the foam, and it works just as well... although to be honest, I think I liked the gel better. The foam goes on a bit weird sometimes.

Anyway, I noticed on the bottle it says to discard after 8 weeks? My question is, if it doesn't expire for another year, why discard the bottle?

The gel lasted me like forever, seems ridiculous to require multiple foam bottles for the same amount as the gel. And even worse if I have to throw it out every 8 weeks.

Is this just a way to get folks to buy more medicine, or is there a scientific reason for it?

Dear nameless,

Why not ask a pharmacist? I find them esp. helpful with such matters.

Good idea. I thought it might be too obscure a question for them, but he said it's because the foam starts to 'break up' after 8 weeks. But medication is still good.

Foam seems the same to me after 8 weeks so won't throw it away. Seems wasteful as an overall policy when the gel can last like forever.

Re: Finacea Foam question
Definitely talk to your doctor and your pharmacist to ask your questions. Ask about switching back to the gel because the foam has a shorter expiration and you like the gel better.
