| Questions about acne rosacea...
Ok. I am pretty sure I have acne rosaeca. My pic looks much like this first one...
http://www.metrogel.com/images/stage0pic.jpg
Anyways, I only have this on my nose and cheeks (where I have larger pores). I am wondering what other people have used to treat it and if it is working for them. I can't visit the derm cause my mom just thinks it needs time or whatever besides. That costs alot of money and our insurance doesn't pay anything.
So... What products work... Non-Prescription please! I was on retin-a and bp for a while and I think I over did them.
One time I had a zit right under my eye where I didn't have redness and I popped it like any other one but it left a red blotch and has been there for 6 months and hasn't even faded!!!!! Now I noticed today thing IU am getting like 3 new cysts in this area of rosacea.
What should I do? What has worked for you?

I think I'm right in saying that Accutane can help with acne rosacea? I know thats prescribed, but I've never heard of over the counter medicines that can help with it, sorry..
I don't really know what the stance on posting URL links here is, but: http://rosacea.ii.net/
contains support and information. Its a non-commercial site that's actually of some help, so I can't see why the link wouldn't be allowed..
Hope you find some help..

Brad,
If you're under 30, you probably don't have rosacea. The flushing is most likely acute, caused by whatever topicals you're (or were) taking. It will most likely go away. Rosacea is thought to be a circulation disorder caused by years of damage to capillaries in the face. Everyone flushes (and some of us really irritate our skin with meds), but some people have permanent damage where it never goes away and just gets worse. Even people who develop rosacea later in life have only temporary flushing when they're young. Don't worry about it, yours is probably temporary and will stop when you've been off the meds for a while.

Well, I think it came from either BP which I stopped taking about 1 year ago or retin-a which I stopped 8 months ago. Would the redness take this long to go away?

Actually Gianni there are many people under the age of thirty that have roscea. My friend has it and she is only 24. However, roscea is more prevalent in people between over the age of 30.

actually, I have rosecea, and im only 20. What i recommend Brad, is avoid things that might make your face flush such as citrus fruits, spicey foods, etc.. my derm gave me this aloe gel to apply too, it helps sooth the skin alot. But it is a long process

I've been told by my Derm. that I have acne Rosacea. My face doesn't really breakout hardly, as long as I keep it cleaned and oil free. My skin is super oily, I've tried many cleansers hoping to help with the oil but to no avail. I have pinish skin from my forehead to the cheeks. When I am stressed, embarassed, worried, in the sun, hot, cold, and certain foods also will make my face flush. I was recently at an outing and people were all saying how red I looked. It is quite embarassing. I asked my Derm. about Metrogel, which I heard was used with Rosacea, but she said because of my oily skin it would only aggrivate it. If anyone knows an info that might help, please pass it along to us!
Thanks!

Brad -- Are you putting anything else on your skin regularly? If you have light skin, you might be susceptible to acute flushing that will go away once you stop irritating it.
Leigh's suggestion about Metrogel is a good one if your face isn't overly oily. I have a friend who did well on it (she developed a chronic ``red face'' after accutane). I still think it's a bit hasty to diagnose ``rosacea'' in someone under 30 -- especially someone with active acne!
Aquareina -- I don't doubt that, but I suspect it's pretty rare and might occur at a younger age if the person has done something to cause excessive facial flushing. In that case, though it should go away once the irritant is removed. I do know that most cases occur over age 30 since it takes a long time for facial flushing to really permanently damage the capillaries. But, there are always exeptions....

Well, One time I had a zit near where my face was all red. Above it and below my eye. Anyways, I popped it and now I have a red patch which has been there since and not faded at ALL! Then again, I was reading rosacea the other day and it said that I would not have acne in the area of rosacea but I do have black heads in the area. Very. very rarley do I have anythin else there.

I don't have rosacea, but I have acne with VERY sensitive skin (probably from three hellish rounds of accutane). I have been using a line called Pevonia (the one I use is actually for rosacea) and it is very gentle and soothing. I use the cleanser and toner. Pevonia is available at salons/beauty spas. It's kind of expensive, but lasts a long time because you don't need to use much. Good luck! (they may have a website too-I'm not sure)

something similiar has happened to me, suddenly i am red. i am 24, and it all began after i was in a severe auto accident. accutane, in low doses over time, does have substantial effects on helping eliminate rosacea. Also, check into a product called desowen-that mixed with metrogel applied 2-3x aday is agood wey to reduce inflammation and redness. The desowen should only be used for 10-14 days. Also, although still under speculation, many doctors have had tremendous success with using a product called kwellada. Available in both a creme rinse and a lotion, kwellada is for treating for scabies. It will also treat demodex mites, which are always in excess on rosacean skin. I use the 2 once weekly, leaving the lotion on 24 hrs., and will until 6 mos. is up. Already, what had begun to make life not worth living, has receeded greatly and helped shine new anticipation for the days to come. sorry this was so darn long!!
