    anyone on disability for schizophrenia?

    I am in the process of getting social security for schizo and i wanted to know. if anyone is on or in the process of getting social security or anyone know some one that is on disability.i want to know what it took to get it or what they think of it and/or how they got it.

    yes I am. it goes by your doctors records and hospital records if you were in the hospital. the doctor sends their notes about your history.

    I know 3 people who receive disability for schizophrenia and another 4 who receive it for bipolar.

    Approval for Social Security disability is based on how much your symptoms negatively affect your ability to work. Your pdoc (psychiatrist) will write a letter explaining how your schizophrenia affects your daily functioning. All of your previous hospitalizations are also taken into consideration.

    Keep in mind that almost all applications for disability are denied the first time they are submitted, but approved the second or third time.

    Meds:
    Depakote 1500mg
    Prozac 40mg
    Risperdal 1mg titrating to 6mg/day
    Klonopin .5mg (2x/day)
    Trazodone 100mg or 200mg PRN

    yeah i was. approved in less than 3 months, too.

    I am on disability for schizoaffective disorder. It didn't take long at all for me and I was approved on the first try.

    I get DLA for having Aspergers and Schizophrenia, My CPN filled out the form for me and I have DLA for the next 5 years.
