I think you must go to the surgeon. You can always refuse intervention, or ask abt alternative therapies first. I have a scoliosis too, which used to be mild and then I had a stroke that affected one side. So I'm abt as bent as you (in your second picture) but no one has referred me to any kind of surgeon! I'm thinking of physio and spinal decompression first, so ask him abt that. Also, you might ask abt working out with a trainer who works with scoliosis patients -- I did that for 12 years and it seemed to help.
Let us know how you do!

Hi ! thanks for the reply. I was going to physical therapy and have been seeing a trainer for 3 years now because of my degenerative disc disease. I also went to a sleep specialist to change my sleeping patterns and positions to help with the pain. But despite all of this, pain is still getting worse every day.. I cant wait to see the orthopedic surgeon ! keep you posted.

Hi ! So no news from the orthopedic surgeon yet.. but my general doctor asked for another mri before i go and see the surgeon. The results are "degenerative" scoliosis and unstable spine. Foraminal stenosis on L2-L3 / L3-L4 and L4-L5. And a couple heniated discs. I cannot wait to see the surgeon and hear what he suggest for treatment. Although my general doctor advised me on mentally preparing myself for surgery, I prefer not to think about it before I see the surgeon.

My son-in-law had spinal surgery in his late 20's (he's an actor, and was doing very physical stuff, including swordplay) -- he had sciatica that just killed him. He finally had surgery, recovered, and is fine now. Took abt 3 months for him to recover, so you'll need someone to care for you, if it comes to that.

But don't forget there are options. And it may be a good idea for you to use all of them (physio, acupuncture, AND surgery). Do you have medical benefits?

I assume you're in pain -- nothing worse than back pain, I find. So keep your chin up and keep us up-to-date on what's happening. Tell us something abt yourself!

Hi ! Yes you are right pain is ridiculous.. I can barely sleep 3-4 hours per night. I have tried a lot of things like chiropratitioner, exercises program, I even saw a sleep specialist to change my sleeping patterns/positions..
I have to do a couple other imaging using contrast and i will be able to know the surgery needed to be done and if other treatments are necessary.. I stopped working (resigned) because I felt It was not honest from me to continue knowing I cannot do 100% of my job because of this.

Good to find a fellow Canadian ... I live in Toronto, but I just arrived from Ottawa. How do you find Quebec health care? I know nothing abt it; I only know OHIP, and it's OK, but the federal govt. has reduced the amount of money they give to the provinces (we are a have-not province now -- do you believe it??!! We used to be rich!), so Ontario has had to cut back on what it pays for.

I don't have a GP here -- he's in Ottawa -- so I'm in a kind of limbo with my scoliosis and hip. If I want a GP here, my Ottawa one will have to transfer my file, and I'll have to get to know someone all over again! (I've been with the same one for abt 15 years; I was with my previous one until she retired , so I'm quite confused. Oh well.)

How noble of you to resign! I would just have taken sick leave. (I'm not so noble )
