Re: How long after ACDF before I feel better?

Thank you Hamps and Mona.
I have never had pain as a major problem. It's always been the other neuro junk (myoclonus, jolts, fasciculations) that disrupt my sleep and destroy my life. If anything,...

Myoclonus is killing me

I have had progressively worsening myoclonic jerks, jolts, fasciculations, and other neurological bric-a-brac that prevent me from going into deep sleep. This has been documented in a sleep study...

Re: How long after ACDF before I feel better?

Nothing is better for me. I have been waiting for some improvement so I could post a "hang in there it gets better" message, but that's not happening.

Re: How long after ACDF before I feel better?

The ortho never mentioned a collar as an option. Immediately after surgery he said I had no restrictions on movement as long as it was comfortable. The X-rays at 1 week and 7 weeks showed...

Re: How long after ACDF before I feel better?

My ortho used donor bone with a titanium plate. No collar, no physical therapy, no nuthin. I had my second post-op appointment yesterday, and everything looks good, he says.

I'm not sure I can...

How long after ACDF before I feel better?

I had my ACDF (one level, C5-C6) in early November. I really don't feel any better yet, and I'm getting discouraged. How long does recovery take from an ACDF?
My pain from the surgery itself has...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

sbbo -- I'm so glad you got some relief.

I struggle every day trying to see if the firings and jolts are getting better. Sometimes I think they are, sometimes not. It's so easy to get...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

My surgeon says it could be weeks, or it could be months. He added that you generally get no further improvement after one year.

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

I had the surgery last week. I saw the surgeon today for a follow-up, and everything looks good. The titanium plate and screws are holding the vertebrae in the correct position.

The post-op pain...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

Well, I went to the orthopedic surgeon this week -- he says the firings are coming from the C5-C6 stenosis and he can fix it. No guarantees it'll solve 100%, but it should help. I'll have surgery...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

I have had everything from mild tingling and mild twitching to jolts, electric shocks, and "explosions" in my brain. It does seem to be worse at night, but I cannot tell if it is really worse or...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

Thanks Marcia
My husband and I were discussing the NS today and I realized that I don't think he even looked at the MRI and myelogram. He had the nurse take an X-ray of the neck right before he...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

After a few days, I can say that Lyrica helps reduce the severity of the nerve firings, which helps me sleep. The facet block is not working yet, but the doctor said it could take a week for the...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

Thanks for the support. The neurosurgeon said that I didn't have pain or loss of coordination, and therefore my symptoms were not severe enough for surgery. Jackass.

I have been seeing a...

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

Thanks -- I'll post the neurosurgeon's evaluation this week. I appreciate the support.

I have not tried those meds, but most meds make my sleep worse (if that's possible). I have not had an EMG....

Re: Nerve firings affecting my sleep

Thank you Cheryl -- this is the first time I have posted anything.
I have no pain from this, maybe just mild discomfort in my shoulders. The nerve firings can range from gentle fasciculation, to...

Nerve firings affecting my sleep

My name is Ann, and I am 40 years old. I have been getting sicker and weaker for 13 years, and my two children have suffered tremendously as a result. My husband, a rocket scientist working at...
